Subject: | "Black Friday" For List Fund Raiser...? |
Dear Listers,
The number of List subscriptions are up by a fair amount this year, but support
during this year's Fund Raiser is substantially behind last year, and there's
only about a week left until the end of the Fund Raiser. I have always preferred
a non-commercial List experience as many, many members have also expressed
that they do as well. However, if the yearly fund raiser cannot generate sufficient
funds to keep the bills paid, other sources of income might be required
including some sort of advertising. Please don't let that happen! Your personal
Contribution of $20 or $30 goes a long ways to keeping this operation a
float.
Please make sure your name is on this year's List of Contributors!
The List Contribution site is secure, quick, and easy:
http://www.matronics.com/contribution
Or, drop a personal check in the mail to:

Thank you in advance for your support!

I'll just throw this out there, thanks to our President, ALL former military

Just for one engine. Trust me, I tried to get around that for months. I even
asked an exporter who had a

Hi Frank,
I sold my L-29 because I could see the fuel prices in the future
increasing to a financially unsustainable level where the prices would
never be back to a point that would make it viable to fly the L-29. At
the same time, I also had access to two different L-39's to fly as much
as I wanted. Just add fuel...., so there was little sense in keeping my
L-29.
If I was going to burn 180 gallons an hour +/-, the L-39 was a lot more
fun to fly,, but still the expense of the fuel was too high, so I backed
off of flying those. Eventually one L-39 was sold. The other L-39 was

We are fortunate that importing historically has been easier than
exporting for us here in USA. Neither is easy or for amateurs. The next
time you wish to buy a part for your L-29, Yak or whatever, think what
that person went through to be able to provide that part.
I don=99t think it is any surprise to a lot of us, that these new
laws and procedures initiated under the umbrellas of security are
slowly eroding are freedoms and rights with regard to these airplanes.
Go fly it and enjoy while you can !

Hi Bill,
Yep, not only on exporting these engines, but the same deal whether it be
importing/exporting. AND the EPA now has gotten involved with the Class of
the engine and want to levy a stiff use fee/penalty for these engines. A
BIG surprise as you say thanks to our president!

Subject: | Import/Export Requirements |
Bob is correct in his statement.. there is a huge learning curve and much
work and risk involved with buying this stuff overseas and now our own
government has made it substantially more difficult.
Also, these parts are not being manufactured any longer and what is over
there is getting thin and difficult to find. Much of the viable parts are
in Russia. Trying doing business in Russia! A risky venture at best!
I have a 40 foot container that arrives in port next week loaded with this
stuff and I have been working on bringing this container into the US for
exactly ONE year.
New Requirements on both sides of the border: Foreign Government Forms and
Approvals and Fees, US Government Applications, Forms, Approvals, Taxes
and Duties.
You now have to set up a US Corporation to meet Homeland Security
requirements just to get the ball rolling, buy a bond, get pre authorizati
on, FedEx
documentation overseas, receive documentation from overseas and pay fees
up front. It adds up in a hurry!
And the cost of flying commercially overseas to buy the stuff and then
subsequent trip(s) to work out snags with the deal...
Oh and don't forget to get a Visa before you travel. Hotels,
transportation, local guide/translator.... Even the hookers aren't cheap a
nymore.. Just
kidding about the hookers.
Once you wire your money off it's GONE! You will have a LARGE amount of
Money at risk, up front, for months on end, and then you never know what i
s
really going to show up in the container until it gets to you, IF it
actually ever gets shipped to you.
Also, you WILL end up with some less than desirable parts mixed in. So
you get the "good, bad and ugly" in your container and so that factors int
o
the overall cost. Just ask Bob, Pete and Greg. We've had to divide up t
he
"less than desirable parts" on past shipments!
Also, the cost of the parts in Russia isn't a bargain to start with, so,
if you can find parts already in the US, they are CHEAP compared to the
overall risk, cost, hassle and wait of trying to buy it overseas.

Subject: | Re: L-29 spare parts Czech Republic, Europe |
Group,
When I purchased my Yak-52, I said that eventually it would be cheaper
to build replacement parts here. I think the same thing will happen with
the L-29. When parts are unavailable, someone will start to rebuild
them. It will drive up the cost of operating your aircraft, but some
will pay the extra cost to continue flying.
It will be like operating an F-86, F-100 (there are several flying, and
I have spare parts if you need them), ME-262, F-4 or Mirage.
Good Luck

On that note...my completely stripped airframe with low time engine is
available for sale. $18K takes the whole lot. All assemblies are on dollies
or cradles in Central MA ready for shipment. Perfect Reno racer project or
just part it out at a profit.
Cheers

Hi Mark,
Yep, it all adds up to where it's barely worth it. A fair deal quickly
becomes expensive when you add all the government fees and import duties.
Also, the mere cost of shipping out of foreign country makes that part too
expensive to buy one piece at a time, so you have to get a large order
together to defer the shipping cost.
A 40 foot container can run up to $10,000.00 USD today just to ship from
a foreign port to a US port and then you still have ground trucking on bot
h
ends that adds a few more thousand dollars and then all the other risks,
expenses and hurdles that I previously discussed.
If you need any information feel free to contact me off list.
I can also put you in touch with a few different parts guy here in the US.
I also have a variety of parts, new wind screen, new unused rear canopy
complete.
