For export import licences, taxe in consideration that the L-29 engine was a
lso built to be set on a truck for wiping out fog from runways ! More than 9
00 were built for that. I have imported an engine for my L29, in France, not
as an engine for =C3- former military plane, but as an apparatus for putt
ing out fog. No import licence !

Customs won't care what you say it is for. It goes in a classification as
a jet engine and then the fun begins. If you try to lie about what it is
or what it's use is then you risk it being hung up at the port upon arriva
l
when US Customs opens the container, and then you will pay port fees and
then be significantly delayed because you don't have the proper export do
cumentation from the country of origin and you won't have the required US
government agency paperwork approvals which will take several months to
obtain. In the mean time the port authority and US Customs will have a he
fty
storage bill for you.

Hi Frank,
I sold my L-29 because I could see the fuel prices in the future
increasing to a financially unsustainable level where the prices would nev
er be back
to a point that would make it viable to fly the L-29. At the same time,
I also had access to two different L-39's to fly as much as I wanted. Jus
t
add fuel...., so there was little sense in keeping my L-29.
If I was going to burn 180 gallons an hour +/-, the L-39 was a lot more
fun to fly,, but still the expense of the fuel was too high, so I backed o
ff
of flying those. Eventually one L-39 was sold. The other L-39 was owned
by a good friend of mine and I was able to facilitate this L-39 being move
d
to down to California, so another L-29 buddy, Pete, could have the
benefit of flying an L-39 while at the same time helping the owner.
So, now the only time I fly a jet is for my job with the airlines.
I've down sized to a Lancair 360 and a J-3 Cub and so I can fly all year
with those two aircraft and not burn as much as one I would in an hour in
the L-29/L-39. :-)

You mentioned you were looking for parts and a overhauled M701 engine.
I have a 40' container of factory overhauled zero time M701-500engines
with log books, tail pipes and nozzles coming into port on the West Coast
USA
next week.
Contact me off list
