Changing the fuel filter has a lot to do with how you are operating the aircraft. I change mine every annual inspection, regardless of the condition. Because of the high FBO fuel costs, a lot of pilots are trucking fuel from one airport to another or are buying kerosene. Even if the correct micron filter is being used in conjunction with pumping this into the jet, possible contamination becomes higher. I recall one fatal accident a few years ago that involved plugged fuel filter in the eastern USA. If you are using Kerosene without the Prist, the fuel can start to gel and grow =9Cgunk=9D in it after sitting for long periods of time. Either way, why take the chance. At $5-7 per gallon for the Jet A, replacing the fuel filter once a year is cheap insurance. Just my opinion . Even if you had to pay $75 a piece, for a once a year expense for safety , it=99s not a big thing.

Like any paper filter they have a limited "In Service" life whether or not the aircraft is being flown. They are soaked in fuel and so the integrity of the paper filament can be compromised over time. If the paper fails and is sucked into the high pressure fuel pump it could be a huge issue if airborne. The fuel filters are too cheap to not replace... In a message dated 5/13/2013 4:37:49 A.M. Im sure they are just as much. To buy these for auto filter prices, it needs to be volume purchase. There is no reason to reverse engineer since the filters are around. Put together a 50 or more order and I will be glad to bring them back in my luggage. The issue is that nobody is going to go over there and get them to make $100 and drive 3 or 4 hours to the location and the shipping also is expensive. Answer is volume purchase. There is an operation here in Reno where the guys have a military contract out at Fallon NAS with L-29 aircraft and they occasionally need consumable parts, so I ordered up fuel filters and other miscellaneous parts for their operation. I was able to get the fuel filters and parts shipped right to my door via FedEx. As a airline pilot I have an "interline" account with FedEx and can arrange for international shipping at a HUGE discount. Original New Factory Fuel Filters would be in the $50 a piece range. So, if you guys need parts or whatever I can usually get them within two weeks to my door. Scott Reno, NV _SD737@aol.com_ (mailto:SD737@aol.com) 775-843-1946

Hi Bob, I just had finished my 747-400 training (Big pay raise). Was suppose to fly a San Francisco to Sydney trip and was out snow skiing the last day of the year and hit a tree while skiing in the trees.. Whoops! Hit skis/feet first and snapped my achilles tendon, so no flying and out of work without pay for 3 to 6 months they're saying. Achilles tendon rupture/surgery is a slow recovery. (same as basketball player Kobe Bryant), so now I'm pedaling L-29 parts to make a few pennies! :-) How's the real estate market these days? ;-) In a message dated 5/13/2013 12:20:37 P.M.
