I hear there is a guy named Pete who lives in Northern CA that has the corn
er on L-29 spare parts, tires, canopies, actuators, start boxes, etc..., an
d also the real hard to find stuff like "Engine Altitude/baromentric Compen
sators"
I also hear that If you're real nice to him that he will give you what you
need at no charge! :-)

The Cold War Air Museum has a huge order of tires coming soon. They fit ou
r Mi-2 helicopters as well.
Contact me off-list. We're still calculating our cost but it should be qui
te reasonable.

Hi All
Couple months back I had my fuel sensor fail on me, really keen to get a new
one. Anyone have a lead on one?
While at this post, perhaps worthwhile to give other L29 drivers a
heads-up...
Was flying on one of those magic days, lots of puffy cumulous around, bases
around 3000ft AGL, tops around 10-15000AGL. Had planned a general aerobatic
sortie, but ended up playing in the clouds...dive down to base of little
puffy cloud, hard pull to the vertical, fly up the face, roll, pull inverted
over the cloud, look for next "target", aim, pull round the clouds, wow,
tunnel ahead, fly through tunnel, aim for next, dead end, penetrate, etc
etc. Absolutely awesome flight.
Anyway, sanity prevailed with usual regular system checks, and at some point
I was thinking I would have to soon call it a day due to fuel when I
realised the gauge seemed more or less the same place as previous check.
Still had over enough fuel on the gauge but it did not feel right so
throttled right back for best range, aimed straight for homebase, called ATC
early asking for priority, then still with +-350l indicated my 200l light
came on, and the circuit was busy with aircraft orbiting waiting for entry
clearance together with a bunch of aircraft in the circuit. ATC were great
though and got me through, long story short, on shutdown at hangar I
visually inspected the tank, there was a coupe centimetres of fuel at
bottom. She would have flamed out I guess a couple minutes later.
Not good.
So, just a heads up that the gauges can fail, and that despite their
reliability one should as always not only keep an eye on qty, but rate of
consumption etc.
So, I need a new sender unit, anyone have one for sale?

Interesting.
In any case, the best fuel gauge is the clock !

Contact Pete Taylor on the L-29 list. He has the L-29 parts market cornere
d.
Lost of spare parts and he's very reasonable on price.
Sometimes he will send a part that is very hard to find and then never coll
ect any money for the part.
He's a very good guy!!
And I'm not being sarcastic.

Desser Tire has them. Turns out that the Iskra uses the same size tires
as the L-29. They are made by Stomil, a Polish company, and I bought a
set for my airplane 2 years ago. They have worked out very well and
seem to be wearing very well. Desser list them online for $395 new.
John Cabrera
BTW - Does anyone out there have a spare air mix valve. This is the
valve that mixes the hot and cold air and controls the cabin temp. Mine
is stuck on hot. I would like a spare one on hand before try taking the
one I have apart.
Thanks.

Yes Jean agree. I guess I became too trusting on my L29 over the years. Ev
ery time I fill up, I note the quantity indicated in the cockpit before fill
ing up, then check how many litres it takes to fill the tank and the gauge i
s always very accurate. And of course when flying you see the gauge moving!
I never heard of it getting stuck before.
Out of interest , we removed the sender unit and plugged it back in. The se
nder works mechanically but sends the wrong electrical signal. Fully extend
ed it shows the tank is full, as you move it the level indicated on the gaug
e moves down correctly but only to a certain point, at around 350 litres the
gauge stops moving. Further movement does result in the 200litre light on t
he annunciator coming on.

Yes! It never gets old, I just love it. Also very cool when you inverted o
ver a cloud and see the round rainbow on the cloud from your shadow above / b
elow you.
I tried it in other aerobatic prop planes but its not the same, have to do i
t in a jet. You need the speed and vertical penetration. I can only think h
ow great it must be with more performance.
