Subject: | weight and balance question |
Hi all,
My mech and I are looking to do an new weight balance. Currently, I've replaced
the 80 pound gill battery with 2 oddesy's up top in the old battery box.
Before making the change, there was 55pounds in the tool box, 40 pounds in the
IFF area, and the 80 pound gill. It feels nose heavy compared to my other l29,
and another one I have flown.
The new config, removed the 55 out of the box, and the new oddysey's and the wiring
adds up to about 53. negligible change.
We looked at he way the w&b was done, and the datum used appears to be the nose
wheel center. That puts almost 200 pounds in the "negative" of the w&b calc.
We looked in the book and the diagrams are difficult to read, but it would seem
the datum is at the nose cone tip, or at the bulkhead right behind it.
My question, anyone know the approved area for the datum?
thanks
Skidmk

sorry for those I"ve confused. To keep it simple. We are looking for the DATUM
used to do a weight and balance. I cannot tell for sure (my books are tough
to tell from) but it looks like the datum is at the tip of the nose cone, or
it is at the bulkhead where the nose cone attaches.
comments?
some have a readable copy of the datum and measurement diagrams.?

We need more details to help with w/b.
Is the IFF unit still in the compartment . If not what if anything is
there. Original battery compartment was in left top shelf in nose
adjacent to oxygen bottles. Are bottles still there? You eluded to making
battery compartment into a tool box. Where then is the battery now.

The iff compartment, currently holds, an 80 pound gill that is dead. Together
with about 40 pounds of ballast.
the original battery box, (rebuilt into a tool box) is now holding two Odysey 925's.
(weight of 53 pounds) these batteries, will now be the onboard batteries,
and they have replaced 55 pounds of lead ballast that was in the battery/tool
box.
I am unaware of plates in the tail. in the tail cone?
thanks

If you putting the 2 batteries back in original battery container and then
put that container back in the battery hole you should be fine. Then put
the IFF box back and the weight will be so close to original there should
be no problem
