Recently there was a discussion on the list about a replacement for our engine
fire suppression bottles. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that services
our existing bottles.

Subject: | Metal in hydraulic filter... |
Guys,
Doing the annual this weekend, we found a very small amount of metal in the hydraulic
filter.
Although very small, the metal clearly reacts to the magnet.
It is the first time we find metal in the filter, has anyone else ever found some?
Thanks.
Dan

At times you may find a small amount of "Fine" particulates in the filter.
There are no real moving parts in the fluid other than the pump. The valves just
slide.
If you are concerned, (I wouldn't be) I would suggest putting the aircraft on jacks,
blow the gear and flaps down, leave the emergency valves open and drain
the emergency system. close the valves, then drain the reservoir. Check the screen
in the tank filler opening for condition and metal. I've seen the screen
disintegrate with age and over anxious funnel insertion. (Sounds nasty!) Add New
fluid. Next year check it again.
Unless u fly 25 hours or more a year, once a year is plenty.
**** When blowing the flaps down, have someone stand by the wing section where
the wing straps are and listen for noisy valves. It will be very loud. If you
hear it, turn radio up louder until u can't hear noise anymore!
