Now that John's Lightning is flying, we have 7 in the air by my count, and several more close. Seven and a half counting Buz's Esqual/Lightning. I suggest it's time to discuss Sun and Fun. Dates are 17 to 23 April, so we have some time to plan. The Shelbyville folks will be there of course, with the new demo and/or the protype. I know that Buz will be there. Will John D. and N155LT be ready by then? Are the folks from WV going? I can go if there if its worthwhile to the Marque. One or two days are about all I can stand - but it can be any two days. How about the others with flying birds. I'd like to hear from Pete and Nick on how we can help by being there. Some suggestions. A formation arrival/departure/demonstration flights. A Lightning Corral. A social gathering or seminar(s) with potential builders. A group trip up to Fantasy of Flight, maybe we could talk Kermit into letting us land there. Now that would be cool. Pete, Nick, how can we help with publicity /awareness? My 2c worth, anybody else got any suggestions? Earl Ferguson Atlanta N17EF

    Subject: Re: Advertising
If Lightning had Cirrus's advertising budget, we could get the word out really well. I believe in the Lightning even more than the Cirrus. I think the factory should make a big poster board for display at Sun n Fun comparing the Lightning spec for spec, dollar for dollar with all other planes. Check out the link on cirrusdesign.com called "compare"- you will see a chart of speeds with tiny planes on a trip from Chicago to NY which shows how much faster Cirrus will get you there. This is something the average Joes can see and identify with. If this doesn't sell people on the Lightning I don't know what will. Rememer, most people that buy a Cirrus rarely use the back seats. I think BRS should be a big part of the advertising display of the Lightning. People walking by the display at Sun n Fun need to see in big letters that this plane can be ordered with a BRS system. Even a huge pictue of a test plane with the chute deployed floating down to earth should be a key part of the display. Safety sells planes to people, especially to new pilots! It is proven that this helps sell aircraft. Just ask Cessna, who is feeling it from Cirrus. --- EAFerguson@aol.com wrote: > Now that John's Lightning is flying, we have 7 in > the air by my count, and > several more close. Jim, You cannot do away with the center console. Underneath the console are the elevator push rod and the flap motor. The center console and seats have been redesigned and I don't believe Ryan has a kit with the newest version. The new center console is narrower (I believe it's 3" now) and really can't be trimmed down anymore without interfering with the push rod or flap motor. The center console at your hips and thigh is glass, not metal. The only metal in the console is the vertical piece that goes from the front edge of the console up to the instrument panel. That piece typically houses the fuel valves, fuel line and some electrical wires. Hope this helps. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask. I wonder if there are plans to widen the cockpit, or make some modifications for a little more space? I'm 6'-2" and a little on the wide side. One thought would be a glass center console that is more narrow than the metal version currently being used? Jim! Well Earl. I know that I will have the hours flown off in time to go to Sun and Fun so lets get together and make a plan. I am up for a little formation flying or anything else. We of Green Landings fame do plan to be at S & F. Since we market the Sky Ranger and the Lightning, we will have a Sky Ranger-Lightning booth in the Ultralight area at Sun n Fun. We will aim it at the Light-Sport market, even tho we are going faster. With the Lightning performance, we can use the short strip and fly during the show...tho not do demo flights. It was always our aim to offer the best of aircraft. The SkyRanger outflies anything in its class and the Lightning does likewise (for twice the price!) Having a high-wing and a low-wing does let us take advantage of the overpriced booth spaces. Other builders feel free to chime in on support for the speed modifications and the gent doing research for his thesis. I for one, would be happy to pay for mods to make the Lightning near 200 mph cruise. I just wish the plane was rated to push 300 mph! --- Kayberg@aol.com wrote: > > We of Green Landings fame do plan to be at S & F. > > Since we market the Sky Ranger and the Lightning, we > will have a Sky > Ranger-Lightning booth in the Ultralight area at Sun > n Fun.
