Subject: | Great looking aircraft |
Hi Brian
Yes I live in New Zealand and have been looking for a fast aircraft to build
for a year or two now, and later in 2007 looks like a good time to start. I
have just become aware of the Lightning and like the look/ performance
numbers. I was thinking of building an RV but now the jury is out. Time will
tell.
In March I will be in Melbourne, Australia for the Avalon Airshow and was I
wondering. do you know if anyone will be showing the Lightning there?
Regards
Ian

Ian,
I will be at Avalon in my MCR, VH-SIP. I have a lightning kit coming
soon. It will be a few more months before any fly in Australia. But
you might see an Esqual or two there at Avalon.
Look for me there,
John Chesbrough

Australia

Buz, et al,
Let me know what day and I can bring N17EF up and join the fun. Let's get
all the flying Shelbyville Lightnings in the mix.

Brian,
Hopefully you are running all of this by Nick and Pete. I feel confident
that they will want this video for future marketing. I can envision the video
running continually at their booth at OSH or LAL. At small fly ins where they
don't have a booth, it would even be neat to have a small DVD player on top
of the instrument panel running the video. I am sure they would also like you
to add the video to the Lightning web site.
We will be shooting from my airplane for all the air to air shots - since
Lightning in flight video is the goal. (You can not carry passengers during
the 40 hour test period.) The way my airplane is set up either of us can transmit
to Nick in the prototype. I can also put you in either seat if that makes
a difference. Some of the pre flight planning factors - other than the standard
formation brief items and the planned maneuvers - will be specific areas
to fly over (do we want some specific ground area to show?) and the time of day
will determine where the sun is - we don't want too much video looking into
the sun.
For the two ship Lightning formation shots I would hope to use Linda's airplane
(with her approval of course) and I would hope that it would have the wheel
pants and gear leg fairings on by then. We can shoot some of the sequences
with you by the runway and hopefully some with you in a third airplane. Nick
and I fly lots of formation together (yes, I probably have well over 4000 in
formation alone), and we have also flown occasional three ship formation with
Ben in the Jabiru 400. You in the 400 with Ben (or with Pete in the 250) would
make a great camera ship for the aerial formation shots of the two Lightnings.
We will continue to flesh out the plan as we get closer to the actual time
frame.
Blue Skies,
Buz

Ours isn't finished out yet; B&B will be over Thursday and Friday finishing the
interior of Joe Cooper's so his might be a good one to photograph next week.

Will do Earl. It will probably take several flights (maybe over several
days) to get all the shots. Should be lots of fun. Might even get some three
ship Lightning formation shots. Next thing you know we can book Oshkosh and
SNF as the latest formation airshow act. Just kidding of course.
