Dennis
Your e-mails direct to me arrived fine - it's the ones through the
Lightning-list that have been blank, if that helps.

Jim,
There is more seat and headroom to be had than in our demonstrator. It is
the old style seat pans that were modified by me, but there is more room
there. I havent talked to Ryan yet, but if you were in the passenger seat
there
was less yet. It is still the old style console and not the dished seat pa
ns.
We have done little to the demo plane beyond getting it flying because of
the backed up build projects of both SkyRangers and Lightnings.
After the two current ones are finished, we may be able to do some modifyin
g
and give you another run at it.

Jim,
Don't give up just yet. The latest kits give more head room and more hip
room. Nick designed a new molded seat pan to give more head room and narro
wed
the center console for the extra hip width. I am 6'2" and 215 to 225
depending on the time of the year. (I seem to gain weight in the winter ev
en
though I really don't hibernate.) And if you haven't met John Davis, he is
a big
boy, and seems to have no problems. So bottom line is: You really need to
sit in one of the new Lightnings. The soon to be completed demonstrator wi
ll
have the new seat set up. See it at Sun-N-Fun. For those of you with the
older seat set up, you can order an upgrade "seat kit" from the SYI guys.

I would incourage anyone who has flown the lightning with the "first Go at it"
seat pans to try on for size the new ones, we worked hard to make the console
much narrower and the pans deeper. All who have have had much good to say about
them, So please come check them out at Sun n Fun if you dont get to before than...

Glad to hear that you like the aircraft so much. Ryan was just coming back
from giving me a demo. What a nice flying airplane! Unlike you though, I
was depressed after my flight. It was because I like the airplane so much
but just do not quite fit like I would like. I'm 6'1" with a torso of a
6'4" guy and shoulders like a linebacker, so I had to tilt my head slightly
to keep from resting it against the canopy glass.
I will say that the Lightning is very easy to fly but responsive too. Nice
aircraft. The 3300 got us off the runway in short order with me sitting in
there at 265 lbs, no problem.
Guys, you have a very nice aircraft. I just wish it was about 3-4" wider up
top.
Best of luck to you Charles, you're gonna love it!
Jim!

Subject: Re: Lightning-List: Incredible Day at Green Landings
Hi everybody,
Update on my big day:
Although I bought a Lightning kit and have been in
the build process for quite a while now, I never had
seen the Lightning fly and have never flown one. I
based my purchase on blind trust, something rare these
days. I had a really good feeling about the plane's
capabilities and was also heavily sold on the BRS
parachute capability, cruise speed and fuel economy.
The prototype couldn't carry passengers when I was
airplane shopping last year, and I missed hte fly-by
at Sun n Fun last year.
While waiting for Ryan Gross (owner of Green
Landings) to return to the grass strip at Green
Landings (he had gone to another airport to give a
demo ride), I heard a plane in the distance. By the
looks of the tail, it appeared to be a Cessna. As it
got closer, it got much faster and I realized it was
Ryan in the Green Landings Lightning. From the ground,
I was blown away by the aerial maneuvers, speed and
handling of the plane. 90 degress banks looked split
second and rolls looked like they only took a second.
Ryan then did a high-speed fly by at an incredible
clip. I kept thinking the whole time "Is this plane
really doing all this on only 125 Horsepower?!".
The plane far exceeds my expectations of what I
expected. Not only am I getting a safe plane with a
parachute, I am getting a fast and fuel efficient
plane. One new adjective to describe what I am getting
is aerobatic. This word was never in my vocabulary
when shopping for a plane. It adds tremendous value to
the plane. I kept thinking that the Lightning looked
like an Extra 300 by the way it was flying. I knew it
would have some aerobatic capabilities but I never
expected to be comparing it to an Extra.
The workmanship on my plane currently in
construction is absolutely top notch. I recommend
Green Landings to any future Lightning owners. Just so
you know- THIS IS AN UNSOLICITED ENDORSEMNT- I was not
asked by Green Landings to make this posting and I am
not on anybody's payroll relevant to the Lightning
aircraft.
By the way, I did fly with Ryan after he landed,
and we did some of the smae maneuvers. I did only one
roll in my life and that was in a Glasair III. The
Lightning rolls much faster. I haven't done any flying
since August so I really couldn't stomach the G
forces, so we had to come down. ALl in all, a great
day. Oh, by the way, I was amazed at how well the
Lightning does on grass WITH the wheel fairings-
something I thought wouldn't work well at all.
Can't wait to be flying my Own Lightning and
spread the fun around. Charles

Sorry Dennis,
I know you must be frustrated with your email problem,
but I had to laugh when I opened your last email
entitled 'Blank Emails' very hopefully (as I'm sure
everyone else did) only to find a blank email!
