Hi Jim,
I too am looking at the latest from Stratomaster, the Odyssey. Any idea
on cost for the unit yet? I would really like to hear about how you
will make this fit and what other panel mounted equipment you plan to
install. What kind of stick grips will you use and how do you see them
being wired up.

Subject: | Hello from the New Guy |
Hi Bill:
I am officially on the "list" to get one. The expected delivery is in three
months. My original panel design is not going to work as some of the list
members had advised me. After actually seeing the panel mounting, I can see
how the panel support hoop cuts down the usable space for the Odyssey.
So, I am going to move it down and over to the right some. I'll have a new
layout this week and will post it on the list.
The outfit your Lightning with Odyssey, RDACs, Magnetometer, Horiz & Vert
sensors, Thermocouples, clamps, fuel flow sensors, and misc hardware will be
around $4,800.00.
Jim!

smoothly, but you will find a couple of things are slightly different than
the build manual, (to be expected.).
I too am considering the Stratomaster Enigma, although I would like to try
to squeeze an Odyssey in the panel if I can. It will require some creative
thinking as the panel support hoop takes up a lot of space.
Jim!

Subject: Lightning-List: Hello from the New Guy
Hello to the Lightning List,
My name is Bill Applegate and I live in Tucson, Arizona. On Friday, the
20th of July, I placed a deposit on a Lightning and J3300 engine. I hope to
start assembling the kit in early October of this year in Marina, Arizona at
Greg Hobs facility. I have a hangar at Ryan Airfield west of Tucson where I
used to keep a 1979 Piper Turbo Dakota. I sold that aircraft and am looking
forward to flying a much less expensive aircraft to fly and maintain.
I just turned 65 in June and my background in aviation is mostly military,
Air Force. I retired in 1988, after 20 years of flying mostly fighters (FRS
and A-10s). My last assignment in the Air Force was in the A-10, here at
Davis-Monthan AFB. In 2003 I retired completely from other work related
pursuits and am free to indulge in those things that interest me most:
family, church and flying.
My intent is to build the LSA version of the Lightning. I'm working on
acquiring the avionics for it now. I will be installing a glass cockpit
based system using the Stratomaster Enigma. It is very reasonably priced
and is very easy and inexpensive to keep current. If you would like to
learn more about this extreeeeemly feature rich piece of avionics you can go
to the following URL:
http://www.sportflyingshop.com/Instr/Stratomaster/Enigma/enigma.html
Additionally, I will be installing an Icom A200 radio and a Garmin GTX 327
transponder. I have a source for these with a 6 month warrantee for $1399.
If you know of a better buy please let me know.
To round out the equipment list I will be installing a Tru Trak ADI Pilot 2
autopilot and a Lift Reserve Indicator. URL: http://www.liftreserve.com/
I'm looking forward to what you intend to install in your lightning and its
performance and hope that we can meet at a flyin sometime with these great
looking airplanes.
Best regards to all.............Bill
