Subject: RE: NEWS ALERT-- FALSE POSITIVE -- INSURANCE
'Trish' at airsure limited llc told me last week they would cover the Lightning in the usvi (us territory in the carribean). I have been waiting for the last few days to hear from her with the quote. When she called this morning, I was told their underwriter wouldn't touch that market because they are not licensed to do business there. Exact same line I have heard from every other US insurer (and trust me- I have called a LOT of them). SO, this was a false positive! back to the drawing table! Trish recommended that I would more than likely have to go through a London based insurer. As typical, nobody at any of these insurance agencies can refer me to anyone over there! You think they would have these types of contacts- but NO! TALK AOUT A WILD GOOSE CHASE! It sure would be nice if nick and pete had these contacts already, but I guess I will have to find the contacts first. My problem is I can not call the UK from my phone (not an int'l cell phone) so I have resorted to searching the internet for London based insurers- not an easy task....if anyone out there can call Lloyd's of London and find out if they would cover the Lightning it would e appreciated. Charles, Ask AOPA about that kind of thing. With all the members they have surely someone has wanted to fly to the USVIs before. Buz

At least, that's what I found when I tried to get a quote from AOPA's insurance agency for mine. Hugh Sontag

Hugh, Sorry that my message misled you, but I didn't mean to imply that they did. I am suggesting that an organization with that large a membership will have run across some member asking this type of question before. AOPA is a wealth of information and knowledge and will likely have contact with Lloyds of London, etc. If Charles is a member I would think that they would be more than willing to point him in the right direction. Buz, Hugh- thanks for the tips... all insurers will cover you in the CarriBean if you are just going down there for a few weeks on vacation. NO ONE will insure you if you live there... The FBO owner on St. Croix (USVI), who is also a Diamond aircraft dealer and former AA pilot, referred me to Falcon, who doesn't do insurance for people living in the usvi. I will check with aopa though I am not a memer so they may not talk to me. I do elong to EAA, which is linked to Falcon, so didn't get anywhere there. It would e great if the factory in TN could work on worldwide insurance as the Lightning will surely take over the world soon.
