The builder's manual does not give enough detail about how some parts are installed and or assembled. Dimensional values and reference points are, at times, hard to comprehend as well. I believe this special group of builders could benefit from sharing their unique experiences with others in like situations. This would save some phone calls to Arion. So far in my build I have had the following issues to contend with: 1. Aft fuselage bulkhead (not vertical stab) installed with elevator push-pull tube rectangle cutout but, no holes cut for rudder and harness cables. Its going to be a bear getting into this area to cut these holes with a hole saw and to locate them accurately as well. 2. The mid-elevator bell crank, which is installed in a slot in the seat back, does not give a picture of how this is assembled prior to installation so it is up to you to determine how many washers and where they are located in this assembly. The builder manual says that the long pivot horn should not stick up above the break in the seat back but, the picture they provide clearly shows that it does. Kennedy" Subject: Lightning-List: The check is in the mail! I finally jumped. I'm expecting the kit to be delivered to my home by the end of November. I chose dual brakes, cabin heat, dual steps, tinted canopy and long range tanks (30 gal.) Mark is helping me arrange to have sliding rather than hinged canopy windows, like on Buz' Esqual LS. So that is something new for the Lightning. I have ordered the chromed spinner for the ground adjustable composite prop, to get the with-kit price, although I will be ordering the engine and prop at a later date. At some stage late in the build I will decide LSA compatible or not, and hopefully by that time, extended wing tips will also be an option. Thanks all on this list and at Arion, for your help in providing the information and sharing your experience to get me this far. Let the fun begin! :-) Colin K. I think it is around 50 at this point. How many are flying right now? I'm thinking around 10, but not sure. Maybe by next years annual Lightning fly-in the Arion guys will hit a major milestone of 100 kits! Come on guys, make this famous and one day I can say that I flew several of the single digit serial numbers of that type! :-) Brian W. P.S. Ops, that last message got sent before I was ready to send it. What I wanted to add, Colin, was that yes, the fun part is starting. My recommendation is to study up on the build manual while you are waiting for your kit to arrive. And if you get tired doing that, work on your panel layout and paint scheme. Lots of fun things to occupy your time. Again, congratulations on your decision to go with the Lightning. I feel confident you will end up with an airplane you will love to fly and be seen in. It is a beautiful design. It was the other one that was in the truck when yours was delivered. I want to echo your comments. There is not another Lightning within 1500 miles of where I am endeavoring to build mine. I can't go look at one to see how they did this or that. I perceive in looking at the parts I have received and reading the builders' manual that there is a lot left to intuition and personal research. In addition to the support of Arion, I am relying on the willingness of other builders to share their experiences. My observations in reading this list for the last few months indicates that we won't be let down. There seems to be a camaraderie of Lightning owners and builders who enjoy sharing what they have learned with others. It appears that you have had a little more time to work on your project than I have, but I'm right behind you. I hope that I will one day be able to contribute what I have learned to those who come behind me. I have kit number 49 however, I don't know what other kits have been delivered since mine was on 21 September this year. Would be nice if everyone sent out a message with: when they got their kit, if they went builder assist and what their kit number is.
