Subject: | Lightning flys in Australia |
Buz Buz Buz,
and Brian Brian Brian,
You are not listening! I can see that i will have to
adopt a fairly technical scientific explanation in
order to assist your understanding...
Lets pretend that we have a big shovel and that we are
really good at digging holes. We start to dig, and
dig, and dig, until we get all the way to China.
Now by looking down this long hole, or in your case up
this big hole (of course you will need a telescope or
binoculars for this task)inevitably you will chance
upon a Nanchang flying over...or is that under?
Irrespective you will at that point see that aircraft
operating inverted. However this is but an illusion.
Brian, although being a whizz kid when it comes to all
things aeronautical and aerospace, neglected his
childhood education in geography whereby his teacher
would have drummed into him that China (the home of
Nanchangs) shares the same hemisphere as the US.
The reason for the Nanchang appearing inverted was
that through shear coincidence the pilot happened to
be passing over our hole while half way through
performing an outside loop in preparation for the
world aerobatic championships being staged nearby.
There had been a delay in commencing the competition
because the US aerobatic team had inadvertently ended
up somewhere in the southern hemisphere.
Now if the hole had been dug through to Australia, you
are unlikely to have seen much. Australians have a
habit of disposing of all manner of unwanted refuse
down the nearest deep hole. But i digress. If you had
seen an aircraft flying you would be overcome by such
admiration for and envy of the magnificent piloting
skills being demonstrated. It would very soon be
apparent that that pilot could happily place his
aircraft in any attitude at his whim and that he wasnt
bound by banal concepts of negative gravity.
You realise that this land that you have spied is the
real mecca for pilots where everywhere else in the
world is just somewhere down under you. Failing to
notice the words 'US Aerobatic Team' appear in small
print along the fuse of that aircraft, you finally
accept the unchallangeable notion that the land of Oz
is indeed the place to be and the attitude to have.
I believe I have quite effectively straightened you
out on you false notions now Buz. If you still require
confirmation I will happily launch into an equally
scientific explanation of how your bath water
circulates the wrong way down the plug hole compared
to ours up here, in a later instalment.
