    Subject: Build Manual
I have received shipments from Aircraft Spruce and direct from Arion. All were in good condition and included packing lists! Aircraft Spruce was short a couple of items and had some items back-ordered, but these were all rectified quickly. Arion's shipment was well packaged and I was very pleased with the way items were labeled. Everything was correct as per the packing list. There are 4 items on back-order, one of which is the instrument panel which is undergoing a redesign - I'm excited to see the changes! My main kit, although ready to be dispatched, is delayed due to the recent ice and snow storms. Hopefully it will be on its way soon. While waiting, I started some work on the items already received and have the following comments to the associated chapters in the build manual: Chapter 2. Seat Bulkhead Assembly Fit Bell Crank Reads: 1. Locate the 12" piece of aluminum angle from the kit. Should read 1. Locate the 1/8"thick 1-1 aluminum angle from the kit. My comment: The piece is actually 36" long, not 12". Reads: 2. Using the picture at right and the drawing on the next page fabricate 2 parts like the photo at right. 3. The small holes in each end are 3/16" and are 1/2" from the end and centered on the flat. My comment: The dimensions given on the photograph are different from the dimensions given in the text. Chapter 6. Flap and Trim motor Installation Trim motor install Reads: 1. Fabricate 2 angle brackets for the motor to mount with . 2. These are made of 1/8" thick 1"by1" aluminum angle stock. 3. The hole that attaches to the motor will be 1/4", and the hole the attaches to the bulkhead is 3/16". My comment: Placement of the 1/4" hole needs to be less than half way to the angle. A drawing or comment on the placement would be helpful. Chapter 27. Flute Tube Fabrication Fabricate Flute tube support. Reads: Locate the length of 1.25 inch wide aluminum channel from the kit components. Cut this channel into two pieces each 23 inches long. Then .. Chapter 28. Flute Tube Support Flute support fabrication My comment: Chapter 28 indicates that the supports may have to be as much as 23 11/16" long depending upon installation. All instructions for fabrication of the supports should be moved to chapter 28 and the overall length explained before the builder cuts them to 23". So far this is great fun! One essential tool no-one mentioned before is a vice - but maybe that was because it is so obvious. Anyone here attending the Jabiru engine seminar in February? I am. Colin K. OK
