Wayne, You need to contact the right agent in Falcon agency. Some of the agents are not willing to go through the work to present your case to an underwriter and automatically say no. I highly recommend Bob Mackey, a VP of Falcon located in Oshkosh WI. He is the agent more familiar with Experimentals than any other Falcon agent and knows how to show an underwriter from AIG or Global that a Lightning would be a good plane to insure. Bob has arranged the insurance for about 10 Lightnings so far, including the prototype. Contact him at 920-230-3252. They said no to the Lightning. Gave me a quote for the Jabriu 250 and it was over twice what I pay for my C182. I will try again with SLSA and see if that makes a difference. Colin I am not up to speed on LSA and E-LSA or experimental LSA. What is SLSA? Colin, That would be news to me. Mine is certainly not an SLSA. It is a kit built that meets LSA requirements, i.e. an E-LSA. Earl In a message dated 12/27/2007 10:32:13 P.M. Earl, I believe your aircraft is an experimental amateur built. At least that is what the FAA has it as. Earl, You plane is Experimental - Amateur Built. It just so happens that when you completed your phase I testing and placed it into phase II your plane met all the requirements to be flown under the light sport rules i.e. gross weight, stall speed, cruise at max continuous RPM, etc. Colin is correct. As far as I understand the definitions, an E-LSA is a kit form of a production SLSA. It also does not have to adhere to the "51 percent" rule. Since the Lightning is not offered as an SLSA there cannot be an E-LSA version. As far as the number of Lightning's that conform to the Light Sport parameters I'll have to go back and think about it. Off the top of my head I can think of four that have gone through the builders assistance program here in Shelbyville. I'm not sure how many, if any, that Ryan Gross at Green Landings or Greg Hobbs in AZ have completed with their builders assistance programs that meet the Light Sport parameters. The bottom line concerning insurance is that we have 20 or so flying and as far as I know all of them have insurance. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays from Arion Aircraft!!
