Subject: | Re: Automatic Flaps |
Nick,
That may well be the problem; my right flap is down about 5
degrees sitting on the ground. At times it looks about 10 degrees but
I can bring it back up to 5 degrees by lifing the flap manually. I
also have a roll to the right when stalling with flaps; how do I fix it?
Happy New
Year, Linda

Linda,
Look for Movement in the inboard flap bracket. On the earlier kits,
about 30 and earlier the counter sunk structrual screw that holds the
bracket on was a bit long, so the manufacture of the flap used an extra
washer, unfortunately this caused the braket to loosen over time and
cause the flap to move about a 1/2" or so but no problem in flight.
Discovered this on our Demo. The plane was out of trim all of a sudden.
We also after about 20 degress flaps noticed a roll as flaps deployed.
One flap would stay up a bit as the other went down causing a roll. We
have since fixed the this on the kits long ago but not before ours or
yours, and have flown the demo and all of our problems have gone away.
The plane flys straight flaps up or down as it should.....

Hi Lightning Lovers,
I have a mystery to see if you can help explain; when I use 10
degrees flaps for takeoff in the Lightning, they raise automatically
during the takeoff. I have never had to retract the flaps after
takeoff. Any ideas? Anyone else noticed the same phenomenon?

P.S. Buz, never have met your friend from down here to show him pics and get
him to buy one. Think he's busy with some astronuts or something.
Hi Brian,
Right, Mike is a flight surgeon for NASA and stays pretty busy between work
in both Houston and Star City, Russia. It has been some time since I have
talked to him but I think he still has the Bonanza. We used to have adjoining
hangars here at the Williamsburg with each of us having a Pitts and Bonanza in
them. Actually at one time we had five Pitts based here and that resulted
in some great flying. I do hope you can eventually connect with him. He was
probably here in Virginia for the hollidays since he still has a home here,
but I was out of town a lot and we didn't connect during this visit.
Happy New Year,
Buz
