Putting a bladder tank in the seat next to you has been done many time by people. I would also imagine that you could change out your wings with the newer set that has the larger tanks. Since your bird is solid white, this would be easy from a paint perspective too. -----Original Message----- From: owner-lightning-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-lightning-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Charles Dewey Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 11:53 PM Subject: Lightning-List: Extended range gas tanks // Conversion possible? With the new Lightnings having the extended range, is it possible to convert an old Lightning with the 8 gallon less tanks to long range? One day I would love to be able to fly to Europe but am going to need more gas to do so. Is it possible to just have an extra tank in the cabin, like in the passenger seat, that has a rubber hose feeding one of the tanks?? --- Jim Langley wrote: > Over the next few weeks I will be updating > www.jimslightning.com to include > some of the new stuff that is happening in the > Lightning world. I did have a question about something. What does this mean? "Wheelbarrows were invented to teach those that build wood, tube & fabric, and metal airplanes how to walk on their hind legs." Hi Earl, Well, it was apparently a failed attempt at humor. The idea behind the comment was that unless you are building one of the new composite airplanes, you must still be living back in pre-historic times walking on all fours. So if you are building with one of the old type construction methods you need to move into the modern world by first using a wheel barrow to help yourself learn to walk upright. Now does that make sense? Maybe it is your Navy training and even though you built a Lightning, you need a wheel barrow to get yourself to the airport. ;-) Blue Skies good buddy, Buz **************The year's hottest artists on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards. Hi Brian, No. Since the new demo flight for him will not happen until at SNF, it will certainly not be until some time this summer. I don't know how much lead time aviation magazines need, but we may know more when we see him at Lakeland. As to the change in range with the new 30 gallon tanks, the answer to that will have to come after performance testing on the new demo. Maybe someone already flying Lightning with the larger tanks has finished their 40 hour phase 1 and can jump in here with some valid data. Another question will be the range with the big tanks AND the new tip extensions when they are up and flying. So lots of test data points to be obtained. I would think that the large tanks and tip extensions will result in high altitude cruise performance very similar to 31BZ.
