I realize everyone is busy at SYI getting the #2 demo ready for Sun N Fun, so it is understandable not getting replies to my questions. Are all the electrical system components part of the kit, or will I have to purchase a lot of them? (I am sure the wire is not furnished). I am working on a wiring diagram, and wondered about things like battery relay, starter relay, over voltage relay, firewall fittings for wire/fuel pass through, electrical connections for wing/tail lights (for ease of removal/reinstallation) etc. What advice can those who preceded me provide? I am supposed to start on April 21 st and must say that I am getting pretty excited about the whole thing. Lynn Nelsen **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. We do not include a master or battery relay, we don't use them unless our customers request them. The starter relay is included with the engine. There is no over voltage relay, the regulator/rectifier (included with the engine) takes care of that (any over voltage is shunted to ground). For electrical pass through we use a simple hole with a large grommet and high temp RTV. For the fuel we have a stainless steel fitting that is riveted to the firewall and sealed with RTV. The wing tip strobes/nav lights use a Molex connector (provided with the lights) and and some spade connectors (provided by us when you're building here). There is no light on the tail, they are located in the wingtip strobes/nav lights. Please forgive us if we're a little slow answering e-mail. We're very, very busy finishing the new demo so Nick and I are not in the office much right now. Thanks for your patience. Have a great day! Lynn Nelsen There has been no shortage of ruckus on this listserve about the charging system recently. It is not necessary to overthink the electrical system. Jabiru gives some diagrams, my personal suggestion is to keep it simple. It is my humble opinion that if you fall into the "what if" trap, you can build such a redundant electrical system that it cannot be transported by the aircraft. Yes, there are some very nice pre-built switch/circuit breaker boards out there that are quite tempting. But they can easily lead to exponential complications. My advise is to forget all the relays and make it as simple as you can. If you are doing your own wiring at whatever build center you are using, then the responsibility is yours for buying the wires, switches, guages, relays, widgets, overcontrollers, underwhelmers headlights, taillights and horn. You may install autopilots, servowackers, tubing benders and mousetraps to your hearts content, however it is easy to spend more time installing a panel than it takes to build the rest of the airplane!!! Also, remember that troubleshooting a complicated panel is a recognized form of torture in most civilized countries. You can practice by leaning into a metal 55 gal trash can and scrubbing the inside lower seam with a toothbrush until your legs go numb and your arms fall off. But then no one listens to me Doug **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Unless you are an aircraft electrical wizard (and I emphasize the word aircraft, not just someone with a EE degree), I would let them do your panel and also let them make recommendations on the type and brand of equipment to use. Things go so much smoother and quicker if they are installing equipment that they are familiar with. It will save you money (time) and headaches in the long run. For example, the panel on the new 2008 demo looks great, has all the latest bells and whistles, and I will bet you dollars to donuts that it will work properly the first time they turn everything on. I guess you could say you are paying for their expertise, so use it to the max extent possible. You are really going to enjoy the build process. They are a great group to work with even though Mike is a Ford man (be sure to call him "Moostang") and Mark is in the process of growing a beard (perhaps his lady friend likes it), but it kind of looks like velcro tape to me. I am sure he will kick my butt tomorrow for saying this, but hey, sometimes fiction is funnier than the truth. Actually Mike is leaving Wednesday to drive to Wisconsin to pick up your kit, so they are already planning for your arrival. Have you designed a paint scheme and picked your colors yet. Don't let the fact that this is the Easter season cloud your mind with weird Easter egg colors. Blue Skies, Buz **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Kind of like this huh? I really wonder how the wing version of this will fair against the normal wing butt end with tape? I mean, which one will be more slippery? I would tend to think the good fashioned way with tape would be? Nothing sticking up in the airflow.
