    Subject: New iwng tip extensions
    To Group: We have put a 1 hour initial flight test on the wing tip extensions. Flight was for general flight qualities no specific data was taken. Takeoff roll is shorter, the landing roll is shorter and final approach speed slower, this was evident on my 2 landings in which a slip was needed to get down when flying at the normal approach speed, so after a few hours I am sure we will figure a new revised approach speed with the tips. Stall speed seems to be initially 6-8 mph lower than with the standard tips. Climb rate is higher too. The stick force required is slightly higher with the new tips, although there is no significant reduction in roll authority or response at high speed or in slow flight and near stall. No bad habits in the stall so far, the stall is so slow that you are left waiting for it to happen, and than it does there is a mild buffet just before but not as much as before so the next thing will be some yarn on the wing and tip and see what the air is doing around it. So long story short the tip flys, and so far are doing what we had hoped. These tips were installed with nut plates as we know that there are many of you wishing to install them this way. I think that glassing them on will be easiest as we did increase the glass thickness on the wing at the attach point by 2 layers of 10oz , so there is a bit of extra work, if there are to be glassed on the 2 layer will go over the seem anyways.     Your results sound very positive, especially for LSA. Any observation of effects on top speed or economy? How about roll rate?     Subject: Aircraft Trim
    Hi All, Has anyone attempted to embed a trim tab in the ailerons or elevator? Are there any flutter concerns in doing so? How are you actuating the flaps, with a dash mounted switch or a stick mounted one. What stick grips are you using? What functions are you putting on these stick grips? How have they worked out in flight? I would like to fly with my right hand on the stick and actuate the throttle with my left. Have any of you (I know Johnny Thompson has) created that set up and how does it work? Thanks.............Bill Applegate, kit #49, Tucson, AZ.
