Lynn: I had one sender that appeared to calibrate (right) and one that even Nick could not get to calibrate (left). During the forty hour fly-off the EIS quit indicting correctly for the right tank. I made a dip stick, eventually got around to replacing the left sender. The new sender calibrated properly the first try. But the EIS still showed very low reading on the right tank. I measured the voltage between the red wire (power) and the black wire (ground), was about 12 volts. I measure the voltage between the black wire (ground) and the yellow wire (signal) , was almost 5 volts (full) I checked the continuity of the signal wire to the connector on the back of the EIS. All three wires need to be connected for operation. I recalibrated the right sender. The EIS still showed a few tenths of a gallon when I Knew the tank was full. I tried changing the + to a -, the EIS then read 0 so I changed the - back to a + and the EIS started showing 11 gallons. I still don't know what actually fixed the problem! Lynn, did you install your senders with the tip down or up?. I have checked the senders (Nick says they are calibrated properly) and they appear to be working properly. The red wire is hooked to power, the black to ground, so the third (yellow) is hooked to the Grand Rapids Technology (GRT) EIS. If you un plug the sender, the EIS reads nothing, and when you plug it back in with power, the EIS reading goes to maximum (with about 5 gallons in the tank). The codes are set to what GRT recommends. I have changed the plus to minus and get minimum (zero) fuel indication. I am out of ideas. I have corresponded with Arion several times. and tried everything Nick suggested to no avail. Have any of you builders experienced this sort of problem? And if so, how did you solve it? My fuel flow works OK, and gives me a reasonable totalizer indication. So I know about how much fuel I have remaining. Any help/ideas would be appreciated. Hey Bill: I am glad you got your fuel indication fixed. During a steep turn to down wind Saturday evening, my right tank suddenly showed 6 gal (which was about correct) when I leveled the wings the indication went up to 12 (15 gal tank) and stayed that way through shut down. Next morning it was back to its 14.1 reading where it has been since first I saw the plane in Florida. I am at a loss too. I did not install the senders (Nick did it) so I assume they are in right. I suspect that mine has a similar problem. It has not moved off of full on either tank (15 gal) although I have burned approximately 8 to 10 gallons in taxi runs. The wiring appears to be correct to the EIS. Walt: I think your senders were installed with the tips down close to the bottom of the tank. This should give you the most accurate reading were you need it, near empty. Like my Dodge van, you have to burn a substantial amount of fuel to get the needle off of FULL. It would logically be more in a 15 gal than in an eleven gallon ----- Original Message ----- From: Mefford, Walt<mailto:walt.mefford@garmin.com> To: lightning-list@matronics.com<mailto:lightning-list@matronics.com> Sent: Monday, October 13, 2008 2:14 PM Subject: RE: Lightning-List: fuel quantity indication problems I suspect that mine has a similar problem. I have been considering getting the flow meter sender. I believe the EIS is wired for it. Does it read total fuel used as well as present rate of flow? Any comments welcomed. Thanks Tex

Hey Tex: Yes, it does read both. If you have the GRT EFIS, it will show on there as well Lynn In a message dated 10/13/2008 7:32:53 P.M.
