Good morning Bill Thank you for your info. Have a great day. Gary Pennington ----- Original Message ----- From: Bill Strahan<mailto:bill@gdsx.com> To: lightning-list@matronics.com<mailto:lightning-list@matronics.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 04, 2009 11:34 PM Subject: Lightning-List: Re: Night flight <bill@gdsx.com<mailto:bill@gdsx.com>> I should do a better job reading the lists. I got H3 bulb replacements. Actually, I got two 55 watt and two 35 watt ballasts. And I got two 6000k bulbs and two 4300k bulbs. No, I'm not THAT interested in finding the perfect light, it was a screwup of sorts around Christmas. I mentioned that I wanted them, and managed to buy myself a set AND my wife got me a set for Christmas. Good thing, because the 55 watt I got is just too much for that reflector. I installed the 35 watt. As to bulb temperature, I strongly recommend the 4300k bulbs over the 6000. The 6000k bulbs are just too white...kinda bluish. The 4300k look like daylight compared to the ugly yellowish (it won't look yellow until it's next to the HID light) original bulb. So, I recommend a 35 watt 4300k H3 hid setup. I'm not sure if it will cause some radio interference, or I'd recommend the bulbs and ballasts I have. If you want to wait until I've flown with it, I'll be happy to provide details of the flight. If not... http://www.mediamidget.com/4300k-Single-Beam-Xenon-HID-Kit_p_120-39.html< http://www.mediamidget.com/4300k-Single-Beam-Xenon-HID-Kit_p_120-39.html> That's where I got the 35 watt ballast and bulb. Just be sure to select H3 bulb type. BUT...I can't make any promises about interference or lack thereof At $72.99 for TWO ballasts and bulbs, you can either put in two lights, or you can split it with another Lightning owner. Less than $37 each for about 3 times the light. If you need anything specific, feel free to email me. Hi Ryan, Thanks for the update on Charlie Keith and his jet. I have not seen or talked to him in a while, so I was starting to wonder. Tell him he can still get some time in 31BZ here in VA if he wants and that I will be happy to help out in any way. I will likely be going to SYI during the later part of this month and then of course to Sun 'n Fun 3 to 5 days early. Otherwise, will be home. Blue Skies, Buz **************Need a job? I made a cardboard template and slowly trimmed it to satisfaction. Then I used it to cut my fairings to size plus some. If you cut them slightly larger, you can trim them with a dremel to get a perfect fit. When I did this for my RV6 it was easier to do than it is to describe bu t I will try=2E I don=27t have my builders manual here and one or two p ictures can describe it well=2C but the pictures I have from then are no t digital=2E First it was necessary to unload the gear by jacking the plane up by the wings and getting it in level flight attitude=2E You want to simulate how the gear will be when in flight in order to eliminate drag=2E Next drop a plum line from the longitudinal centerline of the fuselage to the floor and draw it from the firewall to beyond the horizontal stabilizer =2E Find a point (any point but closer to the top and the bottom) on th e fairing you want to work with=2E Measure out to these points from the centerline on the floor=2E Transfer these measurements to the rear now by measuring an equal distance out from the centerline to below the fro nt edge of the horizontal stabilizer and mark the floor=2E Fasten a pl umb stick from each of these points on the floor below the stabilizer up to the front of the stabilizer and tape it in position=2C make certain it is plumb=2E Now=2C loop a string around the stick forward and aroun d the fairing and back to the stick=2C keep it tight and at the same ele vation on the fairing and the stick=2E Do this for both the top and the bottom of the fairing at the same time=2E So you should now have two p lum sticks and two string loops if you have done it right=2E Once the st rings are parallel the centerline=2C and the elevations are equal=2C all you have to do is turn the fairing slightly until you have the same amo unt of space from the strings to the center of the fairing trailing join t=2E When you have them in place then you can tighten the clamps=2E My RV is a tail dragger but doing the nose-wheel fairing should be easy once you get the idea=2E I wish I had pictures to show you=2E If you really need them=2C I can g et mine scanned and then post them in about a week=2E Bob Bales ----- Original Message ----- From=3A Tex Mantell Date=3A Thursday=2C March 5=2C 2009 8=3A13 pm Subject=3A Lightning-List=3A main gear fairings To=3A lightning List =3E I am trying to align the fairings on the mains=2E has anyone got =3E any suggestions=3F =3E Tex

Tex, I should have said, drop a plumb line from the horizontal centerline and draw it longitudinally along the fuselage on the floor from the firewall to beyond the horizontal stabilizer. Sorr for the mixup.
