Beautiful flight from Virginia to central Florida yesterday. Actually had a tailwind from KJGG to my rest stop in KTBR (Statesboro, GA), then cross wind from there on into KLAL. I was the 2nd homebuilt here (an RV-8 was tying down as I taxied in) but the homebuilt parking area was not manned. In fact the walk through gate is locked up. Thanks goodness I had friends already here from the vintage area to pick me up with a golf cart. I will see if the homebuilt area is manned today to check on reserved parking for Lightnings. But if you get here today, just head for the homebuilt parking and look for N31BZ right in front of their building - exactly the same spot I have parked in several times before. Vintage area has about eight aircraft already here and the entire SNF area is coming alive with lots of activity. Hurry on down. During a fire alarm at work (somebody burned a burrito in the microwave) today I saw an airplane fly over at about 300 feet heading towards Ellington Field. It was overall white C with a blue stripe C fixed gear C no leg fairings C no wheel pants C no new wingtips C but had the little rear window. It was probably something like a Pulsar C but I sure did take a hard look at it. Brian W. > Greg Hobbs told me that it was probably an Esqual. I think it was probably a Pulsar as the Esqual has no rear windows. Subject: Kit for sale
Due to the economic situation in general and particularly my own, I am reluctantly considering selling my Lightning kit. The kit was delivered January 2008 and includes the new style canopy and latch, new style instrument panel, and elevator horn with the 3 bolt attachment pattern. It has the later, longer engine mount which I believe contributes to reduced pitch sensitivity. Options included are tinted canopy, canopy windows (sliding type) both sides, 30 (2x15) gallon tanks, dual brakes, cabin heat, polished spinner for fixed pitch prop, steps both sides and standard wingtips. The work done to date (approx. 75 hours) is detailed here: http://www.mykitlog.com/cojaken I have been working mostly on the principle of not buying things until they are needed, so there is no engine, electric trim system, wheel pants, interior or instruments. These are all available from Arion, as are extended wingtips. I am selling for 10% less than my cost ($36,014), that is $32,400. Buyer collects. Just think, if I had saved the money in my 401k instead, I would have lost 50% :-) If anyone is interested, please send contact information to cjk129 at cox.net (didn't want to use the "@" and invite lots of automated spam!) and I will call you. I would be very comfortable with you coming to inspect and inventory the kit before making a commitment. I am about 15 minutes from Tulsa airport in Oklahoma. I am still an enthusiast and hope one day to own another Lightning, but unfortunately that day may have to wait! Colin K. OK Lightning # 52 under construction. http://www.mykitlog.com/cojaken
