The arrival procedure went much smoother than I had expected. I got behind a Cherokee that didn't (or couldn't )maintain the specified 100 K and had to slow to about 70. Then on the ground, the taxi directors didn't see my HB (for home built) parking sign and I would up #1 for take off before I realized something was wrong. I'm sure Buz will cover this event in great detail in the next newsletter. Big news! Dana is working on her Light Sport license. She won't let me ride on the back of her motorcycle, but maybe I'll have the opportunity to fly with her someday. Lightning has great locations, the main display with two Lightnings and two Jabs was across the street from the FAA building. The new Light Sport was prominently displayed in the LS Corral. Both had good traffic and, I hope significant sales. The Friday corn roast at the Lightning/Jab display was great. We had a number of Lightning owners there and the Lightning crew were great hosts - as usual. I got to connect faces to names for several owners. There'll be photos and names in the next newsletter. As a University of Alabama grad, I was happy to finally meet Bear Bryant. I got to camp with Buz's group in a wooded area just off vintage aircraft parking. Great location, and a great group of folks. This is the way to go. Some comments about SNF. One everybody will remember. It was DIRTY. As Buz had noted earlier, they burned the grass prior to the event. Bad decision. I'm going to have to wash everything twice. This time was no where near as crowded as my one earlier visit. Sign of the times in a slow economy. Frankly I liked it better without the crowd. >From back home in Atlanta, Earl Ferguson **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. I can only attend these events towards the end of the week because of my work commitments and have always missed this event. It is always great to see old friends and associate new faces with those you have talked to via the internet. I will be posting my pics soon. I had a great time. I was able to get a great price on a AvMap Geopilot II Plus to use as a backup GPS and weather in my new panel. I spent some good quality time with the folks from Lockwood, they are great to talk to. I thought it was a great idea to have Green Landings in the booth. It added another Lightning on display and more sales people to represent the aircraft. The booth was busy all day on the Thursday and Friday that I was there, and there were plenty of people to answer questions. Plus with so many owners around, the people looking had lots of folks to talk to. To the owners who made themselves available to talk to potential buyers, hats off to you! When I was looking for an airplane, I always looked for a non-company person to get an opinion from as this just seemed a little more realistic to me as they had experienced what I was about to go through in building an airplane. As always Buz, good to talk "shop" with you some more. To all of you, as a result of my conversation with Buz, I will be taking on two tasks. 1. Total rebuild of www.jimslightning.com in the fall to be primarily a resource site for information on the Lightning, not just a site for the build of N730AL. 2. Starting this month, I will take each Lightning newsletter and turn them into a searchable chunk of information. If you want to go to articles about say, wheel pants, you can select it and see everything that was written in the newsletter about the topic. I'm not quite sure how I want to do this, but will come up with some ideas and then do a little programming to support it. It may be trial and error for a little while, but you guys have been great in helping me find "Jim web mistakes" in the past and I look forward to the help in the future. I noticed the smaller crowds too and a few less vendors. Of the several vendors that I spoke with some were wondering if they would be attending in the future. I tried to encourage everyone I spoke with and even bought some things at the show instead of waiting till I got home. The size of the show is nice, and it was pretty easy to park. Matt Chapman and Sean Tucker always amaze me . In my opinion, they are the best people flying out there. I know I am a little prejudice for Matt, but I always love how he incorporated RC aerobatic maneuvers into his show. All in all, a great time and I will be back again next year. This will probably be the first major fly-in that I fly to with my Lightning. Oshkosh 2009 will be too soon for me with my limited experience. Jim!
