Along that note of the Creeper races.most likely a night activity while
cookin dinner and having a few. After a suggestion from Buz and a bunch here
in Shelbyville thinking it may be a good idea we will be holding our first
annual Lightning Speed dash. This will be a dash from SYI to Tullahoma
about 12 miles away or so and back. You will be timed from brake release to
when you fly back over the Lightning Hanger. Yes we will have a ground
observer in THA so no cutting corners!...so anyone interested please come to
the Fly-in and give it a go. Going to figure out a prize for the fastest...
Nick
How about a separate class for Light Sport.

We'll have to call ACRAA (American Creeper Racers Association of America) to
see if the have a Masters division. This will be a sanctioned event.

I'll bring my racing creeper of course, if it will fit in the airplane.

Not much happening at the moment so thought I would fire up the lap top and
send out some more Oshkosh info. About 45 minutes ago the Air Force
landed a Predator on runway 18 here. No, the pilot was not in an under ground
bunker in Nevada, but in an enclosed trailer (with lots of antennas) here
along side the runway. Nice smooth landing. I guess they wisely decided to
come in early before the special arrival procedures start. I can just
imagine the radio call from a controller on the ground near Fisk asking the
unmanned aircraft to rock your wings. That could cause some concern to all
the other manned aircraft in line to land at Oshkosh.
The first homebuilt aircraft arrived late yesterday afternoon - it is a one
of a kind high wing that looks kind of like a Whitman Tailwind. No
homebuilts camping in their camping area yet. We have about ten or so vintage
aircraft here (some camping), but I am pretty sure most are volunteers that
arrive early to help out.
Yesterday was also the "burn the grass" day along side 18/36 so that there
are no unexpected grass fires during the afternoon airshows when the
pyrotechnics are going off. I think the field went IFR for a few minutes when
they were doing the controlled burn. Sure was a lot of smoke.
Oh yes, I will be able provide more rides to friends and needy "foot
soldiers" this year. I was able to get a nice 4 seat golf cart instead of the
2
seat gator they normally give me, so can carry three passengers instead of
only one as in past years. If you see me and need a ride, flag me down
and I will be happy to help out if I am not on a time sensitive mission.
That's it for now.
Buz

One change from today's earlier OSH report. That Predator that landed is
now on display and the markings clearly indicate that it does not still
belong to the USAF - US Customs and Boarder Patrol.
And no, Nick, I have not installed a "god" on the cart. But you can bet
that if I get bored enough and find the time, I will be trying to figure out
how to install some device to over ride the governor on it. By installing
a "god" on gators during previous years I have had the fastest gator at
OSH. When I would go blowing by other gator drivers they would look up and
wonder why the one they had was so much slower. I feel the need for speed.
Right now we have rain all over this part of Wisconsin and the field here
is IFR. The majority of the storms passed to the south and looks like the
weather is improving somewhat. However the forecast for the next several
days calls for a 30 to 50% chance of rain and thunder storms. Bummer.
Buz
