Subject: | 3rd Annual Lightning Fly-in postponed to October 10th |
due to weather.
To Group,
Unfortunately we have decided to postpone this years 3rd annual Lightning
Fly-in to the 10th of October.
I know this changes a lot of peoples schedules whom were planning to attend.
We did not want to do this however the weather in the south has been
Unseasonably wet. The forecast for the next week show the same low overcast
rainy weather we have already enjoyed for 2 weeks now.
I know this will not work out for some however our schedule here will only
allow that date.
The Midwest LSA expo is October 1-2-3 and we will be there. My sister is
getting married on the 14th of October so not a good day there either.
We hope all can adjust there schedules to attend, these fly-in are supposed
to be fun and with the current weather attendance might be just Us here and
the Cat.
Thank you,
Nick Otterback

Sounds like a good suggestion to me Mark to move the date. We have a better
exchange when most of the folks fly into Shelbyville. I may even fly my
Esqual there on October 10th. Aaron and I have made great progress and we
both plan on attending.

To all,
Here in Shelbyville we've been experiencing an unusual long spell of bad
weather and our outlook for the rest of the week doesn't really look any
better. We have experienced two weeks of low ceilings, rain showers and some
pretty severe thunderstorms. Case in point, Paul Bryant's Lightning is still
stuck outside Atlanta, and he landed there on the 9th of September.
We'd love hold this event this coming weekend but if no one can fly in then
it kind of takes the fun out of it.
We are looking at postponing it to the 10th of October. We'd like your
feedback and will make a final decision tomorrow.

It's always better to fly to a fly-in, but I will be there whenever you
decide to have the event - by either flying or driving. So whatever the
group thinks will be OK with me. I do hope we have a great turn out
because I
know you guys have put a lot of effort into planning the event. The last
two Lightning homecomings were lots of fun and this one should be even
better.
See everyone there - whenever.

Bear flew up early for our Sep. engine seminar to have some paint work and
other small bugs looked at. He made it as far as the general Atlanta
vicinity. He waited it out for another day and then ended up driving up to
us late on that Thursday. After the class he flew commercial home on Monday
(that was the plan all along).
Nick and I have been trying to fly down to your neck of the woods to
retrieve Bears plane before they sell it at auction to pay for snack machine
upgrades. Hopefully we'll get down there soon.

Mark and all,
CRAP (Creeper Racing Association Professionals) have advised that
they can change our sanctioning date to the weekend of 9 and 10 October if
required. They have also checked with both National Creeper Racing
Association and ACRAA (that you mentioned) about the weather rollers
question.
CRAP
has advised that it will be OK, but if any national or world records are
set, the record book will have an asterisk by the record holder's name
indicating the new record was achieved by using special "rubbers".
However, no
special "lubrication" will be allowed.

Mark, et al,
Follow up on my earlier response.
I have been informed by higher authority that the w/e of Oct 10 isn't such
a good choice after all since we have a commitment on that Saturday. Oct 3
and 17 are better. Darn this weather.

Hi Mark et alii,
Almost any date works for me...since I don't have a plane or or there!
I just got off the phone with the folks at CTJ (West Gerogia Regional) and
they
said they had severe wx. Flooding, schools closed, etc.? Wx still doesn't
look
good for the next few days.
I'm really fortunate that the guys there let me park the Lightning in the
hangar-they
are a?great group of aviators.? If any of you get to fly near the airport
drop in and say hello.
This weekend is their EAA flyin breakfast and I understand they have a brand
new
Lightning they will be auctioning off.

Subject: | Another Lightning takes flight! |
To all,
I'll try attaching the files again. The problem is with how my MS Outlook
sends messages. I could read the file just fine but some programs strip the
files and replace them with .dat files which are basically
meaningless/useless.
Lynn, e-mail me off-line about the 6th.

Hey Mark: the file downloaded OK, but windows keeps saying unexpected
format. When I opened it with Office, I got something it did not recognize.
As an aside, can I plan on trying to come to SYI on Oct 6 th and do what
was planned for this week?
Lynn

All,
Just wanted to let you know that we have our first flying Lightning in
Russia! Dmitry Shramenko's Lightning first flew on September 19th. It is the
45th Lightning to fly. Many congratulations to Dmitry!
I'm going to try to attach two photos of his plane. Let me know if it
doesn't work.

Even though this is really not "Lightning" related I just wanted to let you
all know that I flew my Zenith 601XL for the first time tonight. This has
been a long 6 year, 8 month journey during which I spent over 1500 hours
building my plane. To finally see it come to fruition is something that is
hard to put in words.
Many thanks to all of you that had encouraging words. They were all taken to
heart and helped me continue to finish this project.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the fly-in on the 10th of October and
I hope you don't mind that a "beer can" airplane mingles amongst you at this
event.
All the best,
Mark
