Send me the photos and a few words for the newsletter. I have always thought that the way air goes into the airbox and having the air filter that close to the back of the airbox just had to be decreasing overall airflow to the engine. I think you are onto something good. Buz PS: Just started a light rain at OSH (7:30 AM Thursday) but some bad stuff is on the way. In a message dated 7/21/2010 11:58:41 P.M. Be good to see the pictures. I have installed a smooth rubber elbow between the airfilter box(Arion supply) and the carby while it was back in the workshop and a new Naca scoop inlet to the airfilter box. Hoping that will smooth airflow, I don't think it will cure the WOT running though and intend to read some back posts of the Jab engines on Yahoo for ideas, maybe something about the main jet... I don't have the benefit of 6 egt's.....just 2, hoping ignorance is bliss. Great to meet Buz yesterday at OSH, amazing to a Brit where the anal approach to airfield control is legendary, we were in the overhead at 3K taking some pics and I asked if we could land and go to Vintage, 'sure call final on 27' and we were down and being directed to where they were temporarily parking up the old fellas. Buz roared up is his 'Gaitor'! We've headed North and are at St Ignace for a few days (opposite Mackinac) before we head back to Appleton to give the 172 back, Then to the show in the car :-( Regards, Clive (+Shirl) -----Original Message----- From: owner-lightning-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-lightning-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Dave Sent: 22 July 2010 04:58 Subject: Re: Lightning-List: airbox Hope not to bore all, but thought this info should be passed on. Makinac Island is a strange place, a real touristy place with overpriced everything, floods of toursits off every ferry, however peace and tranquility as soon as you get out of town. The airfield is fantastic but that's speaking as a Brit as most of the US airfields are a world apart from what I'm used to. 1/2 walk from town. They have a Fort though, built by the British! >From the Radar OSH looks to have had a bucket full of rain and some, just stopped now after several hours. Hopefully Buz's head is still above water! Heard a few planes on the radio heading that way diverting to delay their trips. Last night two Challenger UL Amphibians came into St Ignace for fuel on their way to OSH. The guys were from Canada and crusing at 60 mph, there's dedication for you. They won't be there yet though, mainly cause of the rain. Just trying to figure where to head for tomorrow so I can get back to Appleton Saturday avoiding the weather both days...... Regards, Clive ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 07:32:17 PM PST US From: N1BZRich@AOL.COM Subject: Lightning-List: Thursday evening More rain today - lots of more rain. Started raining about 7 AM and didn't stop until about 4 PM. Many flooded roads in the camping area and lots of tents sitting in about six inches of water. Some trailers and motor homes up to their axles in mud. Aircraft parking areas are once again unusable/closed. The Lightning booth looks OK and some display aircraft, as well as other show planes arrived late yesterday but are parked on hard surfaces, either on aero shell square or on the north side at one of the two FBOs - either Basler or Orion. Also some flooded roads down town this evening when we went dinner. Hope the weather allows the Lightning and Jab guys to make it to OSH tomorrow. Last forecast I saw called for a 40 percent chance of rain tomorrow. We need at least two days for things to really dry out. Other than the grass aircraft parking areas, everything else seems to be going together for the show to start on time. Hope to see many of you here. Bring your snorkel.
