Subject: | Sunday night - OSH AirVenture opens tomorrow |
Well, tomorrow is day one of AirVenture 2010 - finally. I saw Doug
Kayberg and Greg Crouchley today for a short time, then got busy on my "day
volunteer job". They were waiting on Ryan and Dean to fly in to put Greg's jet
in the Lightning booth. Dave Jalanti is also due to be here shortly in his
ELSA Lightning, but I haven't got an update of when he might actually
arrive. I think he may be having to deal with some of the weather that went
through this area. When all the dealer's Lightnings are in place, there will
be two in the Lightning booth and two in the Light Sport Mall.
As an update on the field conditions, nice sunny day today, so lots of
drying. The Homebuilt parking area and camping area are looking almost
normal. Warbird area is way down on aircraft as of this afternoon, but many
arriving while I was working in Vintage. In Vintage, we have maybe a fourth of
the total number that we would normally have, but some of the parking area
is still not open to arriving aircraft. The area where there are almost
no airplanes, is in the north forty. Most non show plane general aviation
aircraft have been told to land at outlying airports because of field
conditions here. Bummer, but expected to improve soon.
Many of the heavier drive in camping units like motor homes and bigger
trailers are actually in empty parking lots downtown. The old Wall Mart area
near the north forty is now an auxiliary EAA campground as is the old K
Mart parking area. No mud on the concrete parking lots. Even with those
auxiliary areas, the camping area here actually is looking almost normal (well,
except for the mud) - so I think maybe the drive in campers are here is
similar numbers to previous years. The vendor areas also look pretty normal.
There may not be too many more updates, as my schedule gets pretty full
with both daytime and evening activities throughout the show. One request -
when any of you see me, remind me to take some photos for the August
Lightning newsletter. This year has been so different that I have not taken
nearly as many photos as I normally do. HELP.
Blue Skies,
Buz
