You can pick a different length if you'd like, just make sure you have the correct number of threads showing past the nyloc. We have always tighten the cables than looked for about 1" of deflection of the cable when pulling up on it. Has worked fine but thanks to Mark and a Cable tension checker he bought fro the zenith we started playing with different tensions. We have decided that about 25lbs works well for the Lightning. The cables are loose enough to be free but also not stretch under air-load. Probably not something you want to buy for a one time thing but the cables should be checked every year at annual so a good investment. Maybe someone in your EAA chapter has one you can borrow.
