I took the job because Buz had published his last number--he was getting burned out on the Newsletter and thought it could use some fresh ideas and a new perspective--and no one else had volunteered. So here I am with an approaching deadline and very little material to present. My main thought for the February issue is to do some celebrating of Buz and the Lightning Newsletter, which he founded and then produced for three full years. Not only will this be fun, it also should be helpful in identifying some of those fresh ideas and new perspectives that Buz was talking about. Therefore I am soliciting from each of you your thoughts, recollections, and photos, involving topics such as these: * Your most memorable or valuable personal interactions with Buz; * What the Lightning Newsletter has meant to you and why; * Your favorite item or items that have appeared in the Newsletter; * Directions you would like to see the Newsletter take in the future; * Anything else. Finally, do not hesitate to submit material on the "usual" topics, such as builders tips, Lightning flying reports, and so on. Ultimately, after all, the Newsletter is and can be nothing more than a reflection of the community and aircraft it celebrates. Please email your contributions to me at john.jenkins@chorus.net. In this case, the sooner is definitely the better! He deserves a well-earned break from publishing the newsletter and many thank s from all of us. I for one, will contribute whatever I think may be of interest to the Light ning / Esqual builders, fliers and enthusiasts. One suggestion that I'd like to make is that you request from owners of fly ing Lightnings and Esquals photos and data about their instrument panels, h ow they are equipped, and their thoughts or suggestions on instrumentation choices. That should fill a substantial portion of several newsletters and will give those of us that have not filled the panels yet food for thought for when we get to that stage in our projects. Another suggestion is about hints and kinks, and easier or better ways to b uild their planes, with photos and with good detail about how to do such th ings. Just my two cents' worth at this time. I'd like to be the first to thank you for accepting the challenge of publis hing the Lightning Newsletter. I think you have a great idea there about celebrating Buz.. I'll be sending you some thoughts separately abou t buz so you can add to the Feb news letter. Other thoughts i've had about the news letter. I wonder if you could have a link on one of the pages where you could go to a video. Builders and own ers culd then submit a video to you of a flight or a portion of their build or a safety or tech tip in video format. Each reader culd then click on th e video link from the newsletter...Just a thought. Also perhaps another area could be engine, props, engine vibration and ways to minimize vibration. I think additional discussion on panels would be a good read. We see alot o f beautiful planes but don't get to see the internal part of the porject.. Maybe we could make teh internal layouts part of the lightning of the mont h. my 3 cents worth.
