From: "dwwilt" I also posted this in the Jabiru engine forum. This morning I was going to go fly when during run up, as I was taking the switch from left to both, the engine "burped". I'll call it a burp, but it really was in process of shutting down. I checked left mag again and the engine quit, back to both and since the prop had not stopped, it came back up. I checked several times and the left mag position was intermittent. It would be ok and then it would shut down. After getting back to the hangar, I pulled the cowl and did not see anything unusual. I checked the wire from the magneto to the distributor cap and it seemed to be on Ok, although looser than the right magneto wire. I'll go see if my playing with the magneto wire did anything positive later this afternoon or tomorrow morning. My flying window had closed for the morning, so I came home and decided to send out this post. Any ideas? Could it be the ignition switch? Thanks for any ideas out there. -------- Dennis Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=367842#367842 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:21:40 AM PST US From: "Randy Cannon" Subject: Re: Lightning-List: Roll Adjustment Thanks Nick, I will try your suggestions. First Adjusting the Ailerons will not correct any roll problem in an aircraft with push rod system similar to ours. The "system" will simply fly in a different position and you r stick will be off center. The ailerons should be neutral with the tips of the aircraft with the stick centered vertically. Next measure the difference of angles between your flaps. You can measure the gap up or down from the wing roots on the fuselage for reference or use an digital level on the bottom surface of the flap. I would suggest only having about a =BC" difference in flap angle if using the fuselage as a reference point, or about 5 degrees in flap differential. IF the flaps are currently at deferent angles, and adjusting will help the eliminate the roll and make them closer to even, than do that first. If they are even, than try dropping one and raising the other. In your case some left flap drop and right flap rise will help. Now if the flaps are adjusted to the maximum suggested, than its time to put a small tab on the aileron. Build the tab from a 2" by 6" piece of 0.040 aluminum. These seem to be more effective if bent down to fly the aileron up, so a small tab on the right aileron bent down will help the roll. As for attaching the tab, most hardware stores have what called "gorilla tape" this is a 2 sided tape that will hold just about anything together. This will be good to test the tab, once happy than bonding it on is the permanent solution. Bond the tab on by; sanding the aluminum with 60 grit paper on the portion that attaches to the aileron, do the same to the aileron. Wipe clean with acetone or similar to degrease. Use some good structural epoxy for this, 24 hour is not needed but if that is what you got ok, make sure to mix some flox in as well to provide a filler for the small voids. There are many more ways to correct the roll, and maybe we will get some more suggestions.
