Regards, Svein Johnsen Nice to join the club. I have started on a fast building set since August 2012 here in Norway. At the moment I am working on the tail rudder and don't find detailed information on how the rudder cables are attached to the rudder. I will not have a rudder trim but assume that I will have to make a service opening in the rudder to eventually put on a nut on the inside. There are two holes in the rudder but from the outside it does not look like the glass fibre is fortified on the inside. Should there be a washer, piece of aluminium or just Epoxy and Flox on the inside? Understand that information on this was supposed to be in the Newsletter from Arion, October 2010, but do not find it there. Hope for some advises and eventual pictures. Best regards Per Pfeffer ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 10:22:37 AM PST US From: Steve Sundquist Subject: Re: Lightning-List: New Lightning builder, Experimental Hello Per, There is already a nut the hole. Try threading a bolt in there. Here is a quote from an email I got from Nick at Arion: The rudder has a 10-32 nutplate in it for the U bracket that must be made to capture the cable eye end. Instead of the u bracket you will you a 10-32 or 3/16" male rodend. You will put it into the rudder in this order, AN3 standard washer against the rudder, screw an AN3 jamnut on the rodend, screw the rodend in all the way than tighten up the jam nut against the rudder. This will lock the rodend in place. To connect the rodend to the cable you will need to make 4 tabs. The tabs will be about 1.25" long and have 3/16" holes in each end. One tab on each side of the cable and rod end to hook them up. We use the little 0.090th pulley tangs provided in the kit, cut one hole off and the other 2 are the correct spacing for the job. I have attached a picture. I hope you get this and it helps. One of your fellow countrymen here in Yakima, Ola Vestad, recently finished building a Rans S-19 with a Jabiru engine. He is have a great time with it.
