The original rudders had a nutplate bonded in to this point. We experienced a few of those being knocked out. The solution was to omit the plate and require a 5/8" hole be drilled in the bottom of the bump out on the rudder below the cable. Since the cable or bolt being used is 3/16", use an AN970-3 wide area washer inside the rudder as a backer. The glass layup is strong enough for the loads. IF one wanted to add glass to inside that wont hurt anything. The washer will have to be bent to a slight u shape, to fit down in an tight to the forward wall. When installing the 3/16 rod bearing, run a jam nut on to it fully first. Install the rodend in the hole with a standard washer between the jam nut and rudder. Slide the u shaped washer over it. Retain the assembly with the AN365-1032A elastic stop nut. You can tighten the jam nut down at this point. Will find a picture for clarification if you like. Regards, Svein Johnsen Nice to join the club. I have started on a fast building set since August 2012 here in Norway. At the moment I am working on the tail rudder and don't find detailed information on how the rudder cables are attached to the rudder. I will not have a rudder trim but assume that I will have to make a service opening in the rudder to eventually put on a nut on the inside. There are two holes in the rudder but from the outside it does not look like the glass fibre is fortified on the inside. Should there be a washer, piece of aluminium or just Epoxy and Flox on the inside? Understand that information on this was supposed to be in the Newsletter from Arion, October 2010, but do not find it there. Hope for some advises and eventual pictures.
