Lightning List,
I finally completed the latest Lightning Newsletter, Issue 6-2, for
the 2nd quarter of 2013. A PDF file is attached, but you will also be able
to read it on Arion Lightning's Web site probably later today.
It is another rather long newsletter, but contains lots of new
information for your reading enjoyment. At least I hope you enjoy reading it.
This Newsletter's Lightning of the Quarter is Bruce Keen's beautiful
jet with some photos of his very first test flight in Australia. This issue
also covers Sun N Fun, and if you were there, you just might see yourself
in some of the photos. The News from the Factory section has lots on new
information and covers the latest update on the new Lycoming O-320 powered
Lightning. It hasn't flown yet but will be at Oshkosh. It should fly in
August and I hope to have a complete flight test report in the next
newsletter (3rd quarter - probably in September with OSH coverage). There is
also
an update from Germany's first Lightning builder, Gerd Nowack, and new
Lightning builders, Ronda & Doug Guy.
Lightning dealers Max Voronin from Florida, Greg Hobbs from Arizona,
and Jay Sullivan from California have updates from their businesses in this
issue. The News from Builders and Flyers section has information from
Wayne Patterson, from Australia, on his recently completed Lightning - lots of
great photos. Gary Barnett has a "how to do it" on building rudder pedal
extensions. Benardo Melendez again has some super ideas and photos that he
is sharing. The Reader Feedback section has a great suggestion from Bill
Browns and a photo of Mark Stauffer taking his Mom for her first flight with
him.
The Flight Safety section in this issue was inspired by an email I got
from Mike Ryan about his transition to his Lightning and the problems
selecting the right instructor. Of course I jumped on that as another way to
advertise the EAA Flight Advisor program and how it has improved the safety
record on first flights and transitioning into "new to you" aircraft.
Tech tips in this issue are from yours truly and Gary Barnett. The
Skunk Works section is about a secret project where Arion is going green.
In the Other Items I share a great story about the WASP and how I met
several of them along with Gen. Paul Tibbets several years ago.
Finally, I cover my plans for future newsletters. I'm going to retire
again from writing it when this year is done. I plan for the 3rd quarter
issue to cover Oshkosh and hopefully the flight test report on the Lycoming
O-320 powered Lightning. The 4th quarter will cover the Lightning
Homecoming and Fly-In. And that's all folks. We need a new Lightning Newsletter
"Chief" to take over after that. How about you becoming a world famous
newsletter writer, editor, publisher, etc. It's a great opportunity to meet
lots of the Lightning community and get close to the factory guys. What a
great deal. Volunteer now before the word gets out to the non Lightning
community, You know they envy you guys and want to be involved with the
worlds most beautiful, best flying, and sexiest airplane.
Blue Skies,
Buz Rich

Hey Buz: I do not even have to read the newsletter to know it is another
superb job.
Thank you.
