At the risk of being told I'm the dipstick, here's a thought I had today.
When the oil is very fresh, like just changed, it's very hard to see exactly where
the level is. It's also hard to read in low light conditions, and I do a
lot of night flying.
I've tried roughly sanding the side opposite the hash marks to see if the oil showed
up better on that surface. Not helpful. So, does anyone see a downside
to the following:
Clean the stick thoroughly and remove all traces of grease. Rough sand the side
opposite the hash marks, clean again, and paint a tiny stripe on that side with
white engine enamel. After it cures for a day, toss it in the oven and cook
at 375 for a couple hours.
I can't imagine it would come off in the engine, and if it did it would be a TINY
stripe to begin with.
Thoughts? Shoot me down or thank me. ;)

I HATED the old cap head screws with the 1/8" hex drive. I stripped them torquing
them, I stripped them trying to get them out, and basically I just felt every
time I used them I anticipated problems.
Speaking with George a couple weeks back he said they were getting Torx Plus screws
to replace them. I ordered them in anticipation of the next time I needed
to do any work on the wheels.
What a change. See them here:
http://www.matcomfg.com/TORXPLUSBUTTONHEADCAPSCREW-idv-3819-35.html
I also ordered two of the drivers, here:
http://www.matcomfg.com/DRIVET25IPTORXPLUSINSERT-idv-3820-35.html
I threw an extra set of screws and the drive in my travel toolkit.
These engage VERY securely, and I torqued each one to 80 inch/lbs no problem.
Yay! If you haven't upgraded yet, order them now so they're on hand and you don't
have to mess with the hex drive screws ever again. That stuff was starting
to give me gray hair. ;)

I leave the grey haired comment for a later date.....
Yes, MATCO has changed the screws that hold the rotors to the wheel, and as
Bill points out, the new Torx drive screws are worlds better than the old
button head screws. The new screws still use the Nord-loc washers.
All new Lightning kits are shipping with the new screws. If you want to
replace yours contact either Arion or MATCO directly.
Thanks for passing the word Bill!!

Hello to all!
I just wanted to let you all (ya'll down here) know what Arion is doing in
preparation for the "big show". Arion will close starting Wed 7/24/13. Nick
and I are flying up that day and Mike is leaving that morning with the
"ground support" truck. Nick and I are required to audit our major component
suppliers annually so we find it easier to combine these audits with our
trip to Oshkosh. We'll audit on Thu and Fri and then set up our booth on
Saturday.
The Lightning gathering is scheduled for noon on Friday 8/2/13 and everyone
is welcome. Please come out and see what's going on with our O-320 project
and enjoy meeting fellow builders, owners and enthusiasts.
Speaking of our Lightning O-320 please come by the booth to see the next
step in the development of this project. You have to come to the show to see
it or wait until the next newsletter comes out! Our booth is number 135 so
please come by and say HI!
Nick and I will fly back on Monday the 4th and should be back in the office
hopefully on the 5th.
See you at the show!
