I have never had shimmy on my Esqual until the test pilot did a heavy landing and slightly bent the gear legs. I have the new legs and plan to do as I did the first time. Set the tracking parallel when the plane is full of fuel and loaded to max all up weight (I use barrels filled with water). From: Clive James Last two days when throttling back as I entered the pattern/circuit I had a back fire. Couldn't get it to repeat if on Saturday but did it out of the blue on Sunday. Any ideas? Been all over the engine like a rash and could find nothing untoward. I hope everyone enjoys it and will provide some feedback and even suggestions for the next (and last) newsletter that I will be writing. Forty issues is more than enough for one LIghtning enthusiast to write. Included in this issue is the latest Lightning of the Quarter, N616DW which was built by Dennis and Donna Wilt of Florida. Also included is extensive coverage of Oshkosh 2013 with lots of photos. If you were at Oshkosh this year, you may find yourself in this newsletter thanks to photos by Nick and Mark. As always we also have the latest factory news (wow, those guys have been busy) and some great tech tips from several Lightning builders and flyers. My thanks to the Lightning owners that contributed to this issue. As always, the newsletter would not be as complete without your help and continued support. By the way, I have actually already started the next newsletter, so you can start sending in articles and inputs now for Issue 6-4. The primary coverage of the next, and last issue that I will be producing, will be the Lightning Homecoming and Fly-In. You should start now planning to be there. It is always a fun and informative event. Come see the Lightning XS with the 160 HP, O-320 Lycoming. It should be flying by then and if so, I'll have a flight test report in the next newsletter as well.
