But Earl, you are the only Lightning owner/builder/flyer that has set a
World Record in your Lightning. We need you there to inspire everyone else
that your dreams can come true. So jump in your jet and head to Tennessee.
Besides the federal shut down has canceled the Air Force Navy game on
Saturday, so you will not get to see the Zoomies from USAFA (far, far above
Annapolis and West Point) beat up on the Swabies from Canoe U.
Only 3 days to go. Hope to see you, and all other Lightning folks there.

Only a few days to go! Yes, the annual Lightning Homecoming and Fly-In
starts this Friday evening, 4 October, at the Arion Hangar at the airport
(KSYI) in Shelbyville, TN. This event is for everyone - especially those that
are interested in the Lightning aircraft and gives you a chance to meet
other owners, builders and flyers, as well as demo flights and updated
briefings on this fantastic aircraft.
As always, there are lots of activities scheduled including the Friday
night hangar party that will include the annual creeper races as well as some
new games that Nick and Mark have come up with. Have you played "Thunder
Cup" or "Giant Janga"? Thunder Cup is a two person team event that involves
target and athletic skills. Janga (no, not the town in Iran) is a tower
engineering construction and "destructive" game of skill and luck. There
will also be beer and brats and lots of time for hangar talk.
Saturday, weather permitting, will probably be a fly out to breakfast
followed by the annual Lightning Air Races. As always, there will be the Light
Sport Class and the Go Fast Class, as well as the Excellence in Navigation
Award. Golden Lightning Bolt awards for the race winners and others as
well like the longest distance, oldest Lightning, etc. Saturday will also
include briefings on the latest Lightning modifications and plans for the
future. If we are lucky, we might even get a chance to see the brand new
"Go really fast" 160 HP Lightning XS (previous code name Strike).
It is not too late to make plans to attend this annual fun event. Hope to
see everyone there.
