Good Morning, Group, especially to all US Lightning friends and owners! This morning, 5.00AM EST, July 4th, when America was still asleep , with beer and firework rockets still cold, a different 4th of July celebration took place at Luetzellinden airfield. The proved and tested team mounted the wings to my D-EGFL today , the same team as in Jan 2012. Then we had slightly above freezing temps, today it was 95F ! The first pic shows wife Uli banging away at the spar bolt heads. Successfully! See also friend Paul. At this time I had the fuel lines already connected, so after bolting the AOI bolts in I filled 20l / 5USG into the left tank, then we pulled D-EGFL, which is also known as the "White Lightning" ( at least until I decide to put some more foil design on) into the Hessian summer in front of the hangar. Fuel pressure was achieved with Main Fuel Pump and the assistance of friend Paul who sat on the right wing in order to raise the left wing and the initial fuel flow. After double checking the spark plug cables leading to the right cylinders I climbed into the cockpit, switched fuel pump and ECU on and - after taking a deep breath - pushed the starter button. The ULPower390iS engine fired almost immediately and ran nicely. A little coarse at first, but soon quite smooth - much smoother than the late D-ELIY`s 4 cyl engine! All kept tight and well, the Fireworks were exclusively internal and invisible ! So Uli and I will have a good reason to celebrate the 4th of July here. Another important step - or even two steps on one day! - on the way to the completion of my second Lightning. You all have a great Independance Day!!
