The symptom is that all is well, and then quite quite quickly the temperature will go up past the red line and stay there. To cut a long story short, we finally found the cause - a blocked oil filter at the scavenge pump. The oil system has two filters - a 3-stage mesh filter in the main oil line and a single mesh filter at the scavenge pump entry. The guys who serviced our engine had forgotten about this second filter and hadnt cleaned it for years. We cleaned it, and the problem disappeared. The engine ran better too. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:21:01 PM PST US From: David Harris Subject: Lom-List: Removing propeller We need to remove the prop from our M332 engine. Weve managed to get the central nut loose, but still cant get it off the drive shaft taper. We use an Avia variable-pitch prop (electrically operated), This locates onto a taper on the front of the crankshaft. It is supposed to work by undoing the nut, which then comes up against a circlip within the front of the prop hub, and further undoing is supposed to pull the prop off the taper. We have applied a lot of force to this nut, but so far, to no avail. The prop hasnt been removed for at least ten years, and has obviously got pretty well stuck on. Any ideas? ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 05:31:32 PM PST US Subject: Re: Lom-List: Removing propeller From: Stephen Beaver Sorry, not with a VP prop. I have removed the fixed prop hub from the crankshaft a few times using a 1 cm thick metal disk with holes drilled for the prop bolts. The rear of the plate contacts the nose of the crankshaft and I tighten the prop nuts one at a time in a what seems like a reasonable sequence. It takes a lot of torque! I tighten the nuts about as tight as I dare, apply a little heat to the hub/flange, tap it with a brass hammer and eventually there is a loud bang and the whole assembly pops off. Not much help in your case, but it does give an idea of the force required. Steve On 5/3/14, 8:20 PM, "David Harris" wrote: > >We need to remove the prop from our M332 engine. Unfortunately, the fixed pitch and VP prop fitment is very different. I=92d love to be able to apply heat where it would do some good, but it=92s completely inaccessible. For the present, I=92ve applied as much tension as I can to the removal nut and left it, hoping that diurnal temperature changes may have some effect. Last time we took the prop off we did this, and had temporarily abandoned the effort while we went and had a coffee. While we were drinking it, the prop came loose with the loud bang you described. I=92ve attached a couple of photos showing why we need to remove the prop. David :) On 4 May 2014, at 10:01 am, Stephen Beaver wrote: > > Sorry, not with a VP prop.
