I will start by swapping the "P" leads, did not think of that, will let you know Keep well Mike From: owner-lom-list-server@matronics.com On Behalf Of sjbeaver Sent: Thursday, March 28, 2024 5:52 AM Subject: Re: Lom-List: Radio Interference A few thoughts: 1) The right mag is equipped with an external starting device, either a buzzer or a SlickStart presumably. I would be inclined to carefully inspect the shielding of the wiring related to that. The HT leads and plugs also need careful inspection of course. A loose cap, a corroded lead etc may cause a spark to occur where it shouldn't and so generate a tick. 2) Can you tell if you hear one tick per revolution of one tick per four revolutions? That would tell you whether you are looking for a primary side, or an HT/plug related issue 3) Are your 'P' leads long enough to swap from side to side? Doing so would again isolate the issue to the starter system and wiring, or the magneto. I suspect you are going to have to narrow things down by swapping/replacing/inspecting. Antenna is copper foil with balun epoxied into the VS There are no filters installed. While listening to ATIS (118.1) there is a ticking sound that is linked to the right magneto, it goes away when right mag is switched off. No noise when running only on left mag While listening to ATIS I can also hear static that is not there on the other frequencies I cannot be 100% certain but I think the noise is new. This noise is not present when listening to Tower (121.9) or other frequencies. Any ideas on what could cause this Thanks Mike Mike Pienaar mike@vision499.com Home: +1 250-999-8121 Mike cell: +1 250-885-0554 1-1100 Tulip Ave, Victoria, BC, V8Z 0A2 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 02:40:28 PM PST US From: Subject: Lom-List: V541 Propeller Hello Had a real close call yesterday. I have the V541 constant speed propeller with reverse thrust capability. Reverse thrust is activated by pulling the throttle control back past idle, this then reverses the throttle and Activates a valve that I presume reverses the oil flow to the propeller. I deactivated the reverse thrust capability by removing the lever attached to the throttle that activates the reverse thrust valve and wired in the forward thrust position, the throttle lever also Has a stop that prevents it from being pulled back. About a year ago I ran the engine on the ground and it went into reverse thrust mode and I shut it off immediately and on inspection found that the cup seals at the base of the prop blade Where it enters the hub had failed and oil was leaking out. The propeller is 20 years old but has never been used other than ground runs and I presumed that the seals have hardened over time. I also thought that the leaking seals caused the propeller to go into reverse thrust mode. I did think that it strange that in failure mode the propeller would go into reverse thrust and not into full fine forward thrust. Yesterday on our 3rd flight the pilot wanted to do a touch and go and when we were at about 500 feet he pushed the propeller lever to fine and the propeller went into reverse thrust mode, we were Carrying extra speed as he intended touching down long We touched down on the numbers and the plane started going backwards. When he pulled the propeller control to "coarse" the propeller went into forward thrust and we managed to get off the runway I will e-mail aviapropellers and see if somebody there has an explanation If anybody has any thoughts I would love to hear them Thanks Mike ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 03:00:38 PM PST US From: sjbeaver Subject: Lom-List: Prop for sale I have converted my LOM332AK to fixed pitch operation so the V500A constant speed prop, governor, spinner, oil lines and crankshaft seal assembly are available for sale.
