Fuel injection vs. carburated - a basic comparison
Pros:
1. able to run lean of peak
more efficient
less fouled sparks
2. more evenly balanced power from each cylinder
smother engine
3. less likely carb icing
Cons:
1. cost
2. difficult engine restarts when engine is hot
Some of the engine experts will have things I am forgetting but this gives
you a simple comparison. When I was making my engine decisions I decided to
spend the money on a electonic controlled ignition and constant speed prop.
versus fuel injection. Would be nice to have it all but like other areas
when building you get to decided what works for you and your airplane
budget..

I have always had a carb., and have no complaints...Carb. heat works
fine...What I hear from friends with injection is to clean or change the
filters often...The injectors become slightly clogged and interrupts the
flame pattern, and the engine will run rough, otherwise, I suppose they are
OK...Be careful on Lyc engine choice if building an RV, some engines won't
fit inside the cowl without major alterations................Other wise,
toss a coin........................CHEERS!!!!..............Gene
Smith...RV-4...14 yrs flying that wonderful machine.
