Capen" Subject: LycomingEngines-List: Vernatherm stuck open? Folks, I think my Vernatherm is stuck in the open position allowing oil to always flow through the oil cooler. Here's the basis for my thinking: In October during some of my flights, I was seeing OAT's of 35 and 40 with corresponding OilT's of 174 and 179. In November during one flight I had OAT of 62 and OilT of 177 - I stopped and had lunch - during the flight home, I had OAT of 65 and OilT of 146. Yes plenty of time for it to have warmed up...and no, I didn't change anything on the airplane during lunch. All flights after that one have had OAT's in the 50's and 60's with OilT's not breaking 140. Your thoughts please... How do I unstick the Vernatherm? Is it possible that during lunch that day, my rings seated and my engine finished its break-in process? Thanks, Ralph RV6A N822AR @ N06 46.3 hrs - happy with the CHT's, found something else buggin' me ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 10:10:54 AM PST US From: Deems Herring Subject: RE: LycomingEngines-List: Vernatherm stuck open? Actually a vernatherm is in the cooler bypass port so it closes to force oi l through the cooler and opens to bypass the cooler so an open or leaking v ernatherm will raise temperatures. see: http://www.sacskyranch.com/eng18.htm Deems > Date: Tue=2C 1 Dec 2009 10:29:49 -0500 > From: recapen@earthlink.net > To: rv-list@matronics.com=3B lycomingengines-list@matronics.com > Subject: LycomingEngines-List: Vernatherm stuck open? > thlink.net> > > Folks=2C > > I think my Vernatherm is stuck in the open position allowing oil to alway s flow through the oil cooler. _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live Hotmail gives you a free=2Cexclusive gift. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowslive/hotmail_bl1/hotmail_bl1.aspx?o cid=PID23879::T:WLMTAGL:ON:WL:en-ww:WM_IMHM_7:092009 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message lycomingengines-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/LycomingEngines-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/lycomingengines-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/lycomingengines-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
