I have reviewed Dennis Savarese's power chart and am still getting the feel for the engine. Just how much oversquare can you run these things. It just doesn't feel comfortable running 1800 RPM at high power settings. Is this a legitamate concern or just my prejudice from running direct drive opposed engines? -------- Milt N395V F1 Rocket Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=93417#93417

Nothing to be concerned about. Take a look at the original Russian power setting chart and it clearly suggests the engine being run "over square". The only restrictions that I know of are the 5 minute limit on full power. Radial engines are often run "over square". The basic design allows this as they do not have the same torsionial stresses on their single throw crank shaft. Multiple throw crankshafts set up torsional and bending stresses on the long crankshafts on other designs. The simple single plane cylinder arrangement also sets up different vibration patterns that are easily counteracted with floating counterweights. The M14P has primary vibrations in the 4.5 th order and the ninth order that are way different from the four and six cylinder opposed designs. The M14P has floating counterweights that effectively dampen the vibrations. As Dennis pointed out the manuals and log books show operations that are way over square. -----Original Message----- From: owner-m14pengines-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-m14pengines-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of A.
