The Russian mechanics that I know of (Andrei Glukhov, Sergei Makarov; Sergei works for the Russian aerobatic team) consider the romanian engines of lesser quality. Jan -----Original Message----- From: owner-m14pengines-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-m14pengines-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Bart C Sent: vrijdag 22 juni 2007 16:13 Subject: M14PEngines-List: M-14 russian vs. romanian Hi Everyone, If there someone on the list that is familiar enough with the differences between Russian and Romanian manufactured M-14's I'd appreciate it they could provide a brief outline of those differences. In reading through various online articles and forum posts I've picked up that there is something of a bias against the Russian manufactured engines but I'm not sure why. Did either country manufacture the entire engine in house or did one import from the other? Do the PF engines follow the same bloodlines as the different P's or were all of the PF engines made in one place? Thanks in advance. Bart Cocchiola

Indeed, I don't think that there are any hard facts to prove these statements besides somes biased subjective impression. During my military service in Germany (many years ago) I had the opportunity to compare Kalashnikovs manufactured in East-Germany (DDR), the soviet union, and Roumania. The German rifle had the best finishing. The Russian rifle was good. The Roumanian was not so well finished, but good enough for the job. They fired equally well all three. I've heard the following quote about aerobatic airplanes...... "If it looks good and flys like crap, it's French.....If it looks like crap and flys good, it's Russian.......If it looks good and flys good, it's a Pitts" Doug ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Mevis" <jan.mevis@informavia.be> Sent: Saturday, June 23, 2007 6:51 AM Subject: RE: M14PEngines-List: Re: M-14 russian vs. romanian <jan.mevis@informavia.be> > > Indeed, I don't think that there are any hard facts to prove these > statements besides somes biased subjective impression. > > During my military service in Germany (many years ago) I had the opportunity > to compare Kalashnikovs manufactured in East-Germany (DDR), the soviet > union, and Roumania.
