    Subject: E Ignition
We have developed a prototype electronic ignition that is a drop in replacement for the M9 magneto. The reason for the development is that there is a short supply of m( magnetos and their replacement parts. I do not expect it will effect the fuels used. Can anyone educate me here? One of the questions I have is if using electronic ignition will have an impact on type of fuel that can be used. Nic

We've been flying on mogas STCs for many years, and luckily we have not encountered the fuel issues you've outlined. We only have one company that sells blended fuel. Avgas is $4/g more expensive here (BC) than 91 purple farm gas (pretty sad for an oil producing nation), and given the 100-150 hrs/yr or more we expect to fly, it makes a huge difference. Re the ignition, hate to admit it, ahem, but as long standing flat engine types, we're a bit intimidated by all the sparks and smoke and oil etc, LOL. My dad is 68, is not a passionate monkeywrencher and has decades flying flat engines and wants things as simple as possible. The possibility of starting an engine backwards doesn't thrill him. Me, I am a monkeywrencher and don't care either way, I just badly need a bigger a/c on floats that's relatively cheap to fly and our third is a pressure welder and HD mechanic who hates the idea of even going to EFIS/EMS and is going to give me flak for looking into the electronic ignition. However, my father is contributing his M5 on floats toward the project so he calls the shots. Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Nic Weigelt
