Your idea of a little oil sounds good. The engines have been "run in" on the test stand. That said we always use 100 mineral oil for the fires 5 hours. We do an oil change and check all joints, fittings exhaust nuts. Then run an additional 25 to 30 hours on mineral oil. (all they had over there was mineral oil). At around 30 hours, we check the valve clearances and compressions. We then switch to the oil that the customer prefers. The last few years it has been the Phillips multigrade "radial engine" oil George Coy CAS Ltd. 714 Airport Rd. I have an M14P that I'm in the process of de-preserving. The motor's currently hanging from a hoist with its motor mount attached. As I'm draining the oil from various places, I found some paraffin in the cylinders. What I'd like to do is flush the motor and cylinders out with something. At this point I'm not sure what to use. I feel the safest thing would be to use some Aeroshell W120 oil diluted with 100LL. I don't know what chemicals would adversely affect the seals in the motor. Looking for recommendations. I have read through all the task cards in the maintenance manual but haven't found anything regarding a break-in procedure. Does one exist? Thanks in advance for any advice Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=265064#265064 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:16:00 AM PST US From: "George Coy" Subject: RE: M14PEngines-List: Tach running backwards Yeah, You swapped two wires when you made the repair. It is a 3 phase sending unit and 3 phase receiver. Swapping any two wires will cause the phase rotation to go in the opposite direction. George Coy CAS Ltd. 714 Airport Rd. Nothing new here. Except this time I repaired the broken wire and the gauge now runs backwards. I've never seen that before, but I know others say it is characteristic of a broken wire as well, so I pulled the plug off again and did a continuity check to the rear RPM gauge. Everything checks out. Good continuity, no dry solder joints, but the RPM gauge continues to run backwards. Anybody got an idea what I'm missing? Dave. ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 07:11:46 PM PST US From: Eddie Moran Subject: RE: M14PEngines-List: Tach running backwards George, My tach is running backwards and my stall speed seems to be really slow.- I have installed some vortex generators but they seem to be hooked up to m y tach and when I go real fast they go crazy and mix up all the air and whe n I slow down and my tach goes slow they just leave the air alone. Any ideas? Eddie Moran --- On Sat, 9/26/09, George Coy wrote: From: George Coy Subject: RE: M14PEngines-List: Tach running backwards Yeah, You swapped two wires when you made the repair.
