    Subject: Re: Compressor issue
Of course it depends on the size of the tank. Assuming the tank size is about the same as the 52's or CJ6's, I believe it usually takes about 20-30 minutes to fill it to 50-55 ATM's if it is empty. If the compressor is not filling the tank at all, check the banjo fitting security on the output check valve of the compressor. The crush washers on the output check valve are critical to making a good seal around the banjo fitting and the output check valve itself. If you've determined there are no leaks around the output check valve, remove a line downstream from the output check valve and attach a latex or Nitrile glove to the line and run the engine. Obviously the glove should inflate quickly. If it doesn't, then the problem could be either the shear coupling between the compressor and accessory case, the compressor itself OR the little "piston" inside the output check valve is carbon'd up so badly that it won't open during the compressor operation. Jeff Yes. That is takeoff fuel flow; WOT. In cruise I use 15.5 gph. Subject: RE: M14PEngines-List Digest: 10 Msgs - 04/09/11
In my Yak 55M I run at 76% RPM in cruise with the throttle set at the same position as the prop lever at lower altitudes. As MP drops at higher altitudes, the throttle goes to firewall and back about =BD inch. Invariably, fuel consumption is near enough to 1 litre per minute. (That setting is higher than the M14P book rate for the Nominal Cruise numbers but the Yak 55M in my opinion does not cruise well at the lower airspeed associated with the M14P book rate). It makes for easy airborne mental arithmetic. Check the wing route fuel gauges which are calibrated in litres, add them up and you immediately know how many minutes you have to go before the engine quits. I don=92t have a fuel flow meter but the stats are based on multi leg long cross country trips knowing the flight time and topping off the tanks before and after each leg. That seems to tally somewhat well with your 15.5 gph. But is that US gallons or imperial gallons? Full power aerobatics at near sea level is altogether another story. My stats are less reliable but I see rates as quoted at 2.4 l/min or around 45 gph ' essentially the book rate. In the absence of a fuel flow meter to confirm the actual rate, as we all know, this depends on density altitude, the jets installed, time to land at lower power, etc. As a rule of thumb, it=92s not far off. And the Russians have done their homework and I have no reason to doubt their book numbers. Alternatively, my experience, less rigourously, confirms their numbers. Subject: RE: M14PEngines
Post script: The wing root gauges in the Yak 55M are red lined at 15 litres each side. Total equals 30 litres. 30 litres @ 1 litre/min yields 30 minutes of air time which equals legal reserve. By coincidence or by design? RFH From: owner-m14pengines-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-m14pengines-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Royden Heays Sent: 11 Apr 2011 8:01 PM Subject: RE: M14PEngines-List: RE: M14PEngines-List Digest: 10 Msgs - 04/09/11 In my Yak 55M I run at 76% RPM in cruise with the throttle set at the same position as the prop lever at lower altitudes.
