I'm tried starting my newly rebuilt engine the other day. It started right up,
but no oil pressure.
I have a YAK 52TW. I had all the engine hoses rebuilt,
and the oil cooler overhauled, so I am starting with a completely vacated oil system.
Before starting I rotated the prop numerous times by hand and also rotated
the engine over with the electric starter attempting to get oil pressure.
I was never able to get any pressure or any oil to the oil cooler, or the oil
pump. It was suggested to me to go ahead and start the engine and let the engine
oil pump fill the engine. I started the engine up and after 20 seconds
shut it down due to no oil pressure. I started to check to see if oil was filling
the engine, and still no oil in the oil cooler. I have oil going from
the tank to the oil filter sump and it fills the oil filter, but I cannot get
any oil to go from the filter to the oil pump. I find it strange that oil will
not go beyond here as the oil should fill into all hoses below the oil supply.
Can any one give me ideas on what to do or try next? Am I missing something?
I am enclosing a picture of my oil filter.
Thanks
Todd Snaza

Subject: | Re: NO OIL PRESSURE |
Thanks fro the reply Mark,
I will definitely check that out next.
I know oil is getting from the tank to the oil sump/filter and when the filter
is pushed in oil is filling the filter housing, a lot of the hoses are difficult
to get to and so when I had the oil filter out of the housing I was able to
push a smaller hose straight up through the bottom of the filter housing and
through the oil hose that goes from the filter to the oil pump. I just cannot
understand why oil does not seem to leave the oil filter to fill the hose that
goes to the pump. I also dissconected the hose from the pump and no oil would
come out. Shouldnt head pressure from the oil tank naturally fill the hose
from the filter to the pump, both of which is lower than the supply tank? It
seems so basic but I think i am missing something. I really think my problem
will be the oil supply line of something with the oil filter, as I cannot get
oil to leave the oil filter housing.
I will not be able to do any troubleshooting for a couple weeks so I want to get
some ideas to try when i get back home. But if something else does not come
up I will start at the oil tank and start removing hoses to see if I may have
ledt a plug or something in.
Thanks
Todd
