Hello Mike and anybody else here. I'm curious what empty weights other
builders have, and what tire pressure and control surface deflections you
have. My are all close to the drawings but sometimes off by a couple
degrees. I'm wondering how much it might matter. Also, for tricycle - what
is the nose down attitude on the ground?
Thanks, Gary

Gary:
1. My weights were as follows:
- totally empty (no fuel, oil or antifreeze) - 784 lbs
- empty weight + oil + antifreeze - 806 lbs
- empty weight + oil + antifreeze + residual fuel - 830 lbs
2. tire pressure - never measured - just pumped them up until they looked ok
3. Control surface deflections:
flaps - max deflection about 42 degrees
ailerons - left - down -15.5 degrees
- up - 20 degrees
- right - down - 14.5 degrees
- up - 21 degrees
the aileron travel is restricted by the mass balances hitting the wing skins.
(That is until I put a stop on the sticks at full deflection - now the mass
balance hits the wing and the stick hits the stop at the same time)
elevators - down - 20.5 degrees
- up - 28 degrees
the down elevator is restricted by my stick stop which keeps the max fwd
travel of the stick to about 1.5 inches from the panel.
trim - down - 23 degrees
- up - 24 degrees
rudder - right/left - 18/18 degrees
I flew up to Gatineau last week. Lorraine, Jean-Rene and Pierre all came to
see the plane. Pierre thought that the rudder deflection was a bit on the low
side. Believe me the 18 degrees will slip the plane just fine (and really scare
your passengers!), I don't think more is required. As for the other
deflections, I have never had to use more than about 1/2 deflection on any of
them so they are also just fine.
As an aside, the factory was really busy - shipping planes all over the world -
something good to see.
4. I believe the nose down attitude depends on the landing gear version you have
(there are several). On mine the nose gear is about 1 1/2 inches up from the
slotted ring on the gear support when the plane is on the ground. This results
in the plane being slightly nose down. I have never actually checked the angle
but when I weighed the plane I had to put a 2x4 under the nose wheel to get the
rear fuselage level.
I now have 76 hours on the plane, it flies like a dream.
How close are you to flying? Are you going to do the first flight?
Mike
