The discussion about this cold snap around the nation reminded me of New Year's Day, 2000. While lots of people were fretting about the Y2K non-crisis we had plans at the local airport to be the first ones to fly that morning. Turned out to be a sunny winter day with a fresh 2" of snow on the grass runway and a balmy 8 F. It took us about 20 minutes to get the 65 Cont. warmed up.........and maybe another 10 for me just to fit myself and 4 layers of clothing in the rear seat. We had to find out if the Piet design was Y2K compliant. After about 12 minutes in the air circling the airport at about 600 feet agl I'd had enough. I think the Cub and the Fairchild also flew that day but they have enclosed cabins and heat !! Stood around the torpedo heater for the next 1/2 hour and rotated like a chicken in a grocery store rotisserie. THEN.......last September while coming back from the Indianapolis Airshow I made a fuel stop at Neil Armstrong Airport near Wapakoneta, Ohio. I think the guy at the FBO desk said it was something like 96 F right then. But it was a dry heat:)) See what you got yourself into by moving to Ohio, Kip:)) ? do not archive ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 09:41:25 AM PST US From: Michael D Cuy Subject: Pietenpol-List: Dawn Patrol's Smoke System --> Pietenpol-List message posted by: Michael D Cuy Group---from time to time people want to install smoke systems on planes. They are a riot, lemmie tell you. Anyway.....after Walt Evans mentioned the Dawn Patrol site, I had to go there. I would love one of those puppies but why have TWO slow planes. Anyway, they have a good write-up at the site below of how they installed their smoke systems. Go to http://www.epanelbuilder.com and now the Piet is one of the choices after you click on 'begin building your panel'. The panel is for the rear cockpit; the front is a bit larger but no one seems to be putting anything in the front 'pit. Go ahead; put in a moving map, HSI "glass cockpit" ;o) Oscar Zuniga San Antonio, TX mailto: taildrags@hotmail.com website at http://www.flysquirrel.net ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 08:52:30 PM PST US From: "Christian Bobka" Subject: RE: Pietenpol-List: John Grega --> Pietenpol-List message posted by: "Christian Bobka" Jim, If you have any pre 1960 EAA Sport Aviation magazines, EAA Experimenter magazines, or Popular Aviation magazines from the 1930's, I might be interested. Among the tons (literally) of items he left is his last project. It is a nearly completed R/C model of his airplane. if you have any interest in this or any of the estimated 1000 model airplane plans, old magazines, etc., let me know. As soon as we sort it out i will get back to you with particulars. What is that web site ? I would really like to install a smoke system, however, in todays world of suspected terrorists, I supose you would have to be cautious about where you lay down smoke...
