Walt,
Hope you are getting dug out Ok over there in NJ. We got the 'fringe' of
the storm & it was still good for about 8" of snow (on top of what we
already had).
If this keeps up, all of us in the Yankee States will have to schedule a
SKI-PIET Fly-IN!
Cheers!
Kip Gardner (Hoping all this snow forbodes an early & WARM Spring!)

We could even have a Ski-Piet Fly-in in the good part of the country. We
got 2" of sleet from this storm here in central North Carolina. Going into
work was optional today (let's see, drive 50 miles in 2" of sleet with
freezing rain still coming down, or stay home in a nice heated basement and
work on the Pietenpol? Dumb question).
Hope this stuff gets over with soon. I'm tired of this Cleveland weather.
Jack

Kip,
No, now it's 1811 and the snow continues to fall, but fading fast. Went up
to check on my hanger with my newly licenced Piet in it , at noon , and the
airport was not dug out at all, all I could do was peer accross the field
thru the white out and try to see my hanger. Seemed OK , but couldn't be
sure. Convinced myself it was OK till about 1630, when I knew I couldn't
sleep till I saw it. The airport owner was trying to plow out the important
parts with a bulldoser, he offered to plow a track to my hanger, but I
declined. At least he had plowed the driveway near the main hanger near
the main entrance. I parked and did my 1/4 mi treck thru the snow, which
measured up to my kneecap with my foot dug to the grass. After getting most
of the way there, here came the sound of a German Halftrack from the series
Combat, comming up behind me. He dug past me, looped around me and came
back. Sure made walking back alot easier.
Knocked alot of snow off of the Cover-it, but alot is between me and the
neighbor tent, Oh Well, best I can do. All was safe and sound, except it
felt like I was leaving my 8 year old at a strangers house.
The only great thing to this was that at 1720 tonite it was still light
out!!!
Spring is right around the corner.

Sorry to tell you folks up north. I will be putting a rebuilt cylinder on
my GN-1 tomorrow. The hanger door will be open and I will be looking at
green grass. Had enough sense to leave Wisconsin.

There is a nice article in the March issue of CustomPlanes magazine on
knowing how and where to substitute different kinds of wood in building an
airplane. You don't HAVE to use expensive Sitka spruce to build a safe wood
airplane. Also several other good articles in that issue.
